Not all degrees worthwhile?
at 14:02 5 Feb 2018

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-42923529

Lisa made this point in another thread recently. I tend to agree that too many people go to university undertaking degrees that are arguable less worthwhile than an apprenticeship. I strongly advocate work-based learning that can be accredited towards qualifications, though many academics don't like this, why not work in civil engineering or business and study through work?

Any other thoughts?

Just done a great link extolling the virtues of Carlos’s excellemt analogies. He suggested he is becoming a cult figure.

Sadly passed away at 82.

Always loved to hear him as the summariser. Not the ego of the modern player

Not in the Sense of taking a bribe, but ensuring the ‘big six’ win. Maddley was shocking in again.

Two former (at least on loan in Nathan Tyson) players scoring for Wycombe against Newport. Sad thing is either may be a better

Albeit an Irish variant. Many Irishmen died fighting in WWI. Around 60,000 men of the Republic joined the fight against the Nazis as volunteers yet many were punished by the De Valera government. Nonetheless good to see recognition of these men who fought to help preserve our freedom.

Car Parking Advice
at 15:26 21 Sep 2017

I will be making an increasingly rare foray into South Wales on Saturday. What is the best current advice on match day parking? Will be coming down the Swansea Valley then heading East to my in-laws after the game. Don't mind paying to park-used to use the Tennis Centre. Will probably arrive around 1pm.

Thanks in advance.

Not the most popular show on here. However in last night's episode there was a "Swansea City AFC. Since 1912" scarf on the wall. Not sure whether down to the actors (several are Neath/Swansea boys) or Ruth Jones and her husband (who are the producers). Anyway another one in the eye for the "Welsh Barca"

A spectacular failure by the second most hated man on merseyside.

Who else- May? Sturgeon?

Corbyn looks solid now and arguably Farron has done enough. Plaid gain a seat but lose ground in the valleys-how safe is Leanne "Natalie' Wood?

Currently second with one yellow more than Liverpool on 55. Bournemouth have fewer but several red cards. Watford are bottom.

Orgreave-good article by David Conn
at 15:59 18 May 2017

Conn more usually writes on football and Hillsborough of course. I was 16 when this happened. The 1984/5 Miners strike affected the way I look at the world even today. The article perhaps begins to explain some of the culture of senior officers in South Yorkshire Police which culminated in tragedy five years later. It is a long piece.

Decimate
at 15:08 25 Apr 2017

A word being bandied around a lot at the moment. In its 'modern' sense we take it to be the removal or destruction of a large proportion of something. Yet its Latin derivation relates to one in ten-usually the execution of every tenth person involved in rebellion or mutiny. Both are correct but I hope that a team decimated by injuries or labour being decimated at the next election are just in the modern sense.

A pointless post but needed to help my sanity in grant writing.

Surprised no one posted about this. Moralee was interviewed on 5 live yesterday afternoon about the role of an agent. Spoke at some length over Ash's transfer to Everton. He said that Swansea offered to match the wage offer from Everton, but that was rejected for the challenge of a new 'bigger' club. Spoke highly of Swansea being one of the more professional clubs in transfer dealings!
