Aid workers killed
at 19:05 4 Apr 2024

my thoughts, all these world leaders are dickheads.

In todays modern times, there shouldn't be any war at all. Has anyone learnt anything from the two world wars?

The world is on fire. Hunger, climate change, war, disease, and the worst thing of all is the politicians pouring petrol on the flames to make it a million times worse.

Iraq, Afghan, Ukraine, Palestine, why the feck can't people just get on without having to invade countries like these?
That goes for the Brits and the Americans too, the worlds biggest warmongers.

Jesus lads, give it a rest.

Am I going to turn on the news tomorrow and find out that world leaders are going to work together to end world famine, or find a cure for dementia, or fight pollution? NO.
I will turn on the news tomorrow to see war war war, kids being killed under tons of rubble.

Blame it on the world leaders, they can literally end this overnight if they chose to do so.

indeed, the meltdown with them over losing to us this time round is the most funniest it's been in a while. It really hit them hard this time.

I can only think it is because they thought they were going to do the double over us? Because of their recent form? Not sure. But for the meltdown on twitter etc to roll into its fourth or fifth day now, is just comedy gold.

That poster they got writing them articles, cracks me up.

How and why did we start following the swans.
at 07:38 20 Mar 2024

1st January 1991 Swansea 5-0 Rotherham

i was six years old. stood on the north bank

Little Mermaid was in the cinema, and i had a choice of going to watch the swans with my father, brother and cousin, or join my Mam, aunty and other cousins in the cinema to watch little mermaid.

After the game we walked to littlewoods, to see if we could get a taxi back up the hill. But none was about.

I remember it was hammering down with rain, walking up mount pleasant hill.

Absolutely correct, it is down to personal choice.

Core subjects you mention, like what? Maths and the sciences? I have never used anything that i was or wasn't taught in schools. It was a complete waste of my time. And they should have had more choice in vocational courses rather than compulsory subjects.
I agree that Welsh should not be compulsory. It should be personal choice.

Regarding the figures and census. I know personally a handful of people that didn't even fill it out, and no one came banging their doors looking for them or imposing fines. So that's one little handful that old SgorioFruit knows. Not exactly big numbers. I also know another lot of people who refused to fill it out. I also know a few who didn't select Welsh speaker when they are Welsh speakers, for reasons only known to them. The list goes on and on.

There isn't any clear debate here, it is just half the contributors who get their knickers in the twist over the language, and the other half who either speak it or couldn't give a monkeys.

I am happy you don't hear Welsh being spoken, im happy if you did. If your debate is you don't hear Welsh being spoken, then that's your perspective. I hear it daily, and it's as normal as night follows day.
We can keep going round in circles with these convos, Welsh is spoken, maybe not in your world but it is in mine. So we will always disagree. Its the way we perceive it.

Just stating facts.

You would be absolutely blown away if you stepped foot in my local town and hear what language people were speaking, Guess what language that is? I'll give you a clue, the town is in Wales, what language do you think you will hear? In fact you will hear at least two languages being spoken, Welsh and English. I have travelled, lived, worked and walked the length of Wales. I have heard many languages being spoken. Beautiful isn't it?

I have said it before, your posts indicate you have a problem with the language, as much as you keep saying you don't.
You always keep referring to a us and them mentality.

You and your way of life is not under any threat because of the Welsh language.

It is being spoke a lot more than you tend to think, and long may it continue, same as all languages.

That's pretty obvious isn't it?
Of course Welsh isn't going to be much use to them outside of Wales.
And of course Spanish and French are more useful outside of Wales. So in that instance they should learn French and Spanish if they want to. So what is this issue here? The issue here is Welsh is taught in school in Wales? Jesus wept.
What about other compulsory subjects like science and technology? I hated them in school, however useful it might be, more useful than Welsh? Maybe, maybe not, but i hated them. I don't go on forums later on in life saying all science and technology should be scrapped.
It is down to personal choice. If your children have missed out because they learnt Welsh instead of French or Spanish, then what is stopping them moving to France or Spain?
There is no getting away from this is Wales, and Welsh is spoke.

Welsh speaking numbers dropping? I wouldn't pay attention to the figure nor the census. It is largely inaccurate.

"Socially , in that business circle, Welsh is an utter irrelevance"

good, i am happy for him or her. I am assuming that they wasn't held back by any Welsh speaking schools or communities.

"Welsh has significant sentimental connotations and it's why much questioning of its use leads to defensive comments that get personal"

That is because it is a language that others have tried for centuries to abolish, Kings, Governments, etc, and it still survives. Every time the question of the language comes up, it is going to be met with, why should the language be attacked in it's own country. It really is that simple. I don't know why it so hard for people to grasp that people speak their language in their own country.

"Try beiing English speaking on a tiny north Wales town"

Yes, I know many. Try being English speaking in remote areas of europe, like I have experienced. See, again it is down to opinions and personal experiences. I can match a lot of peoples experiences on here.

Many youngsters do, and many youngsters don't.

This isn't Italy, or Spain or France, this is Wales, and Welsh being taught in schools shouldn't get people so wound up.

Other languages can be taken at secondary school, well they teach German and French in the local secondary school here, alongside being a Welsh medium school.

As I have previously mentioned about my children attending a Welsh primary school. Kids there ages 6 and 7 and so on have already reached a decent level of fluency in Welsh and they come from just English speaking homes. I can assure you that nothing has been rammed down their necks, or forced upon, and there isn't any segregation or thinking Welsh speakers are anything better than English speakers. It is just a Welsh speaking community, a Welsh speaking town. I'm really not making this up.

Others that keep going on about learning different european languages instead, well what's stopping them?
Hasn't there been numerous studies about kids who are bilingual early have their brains wired up to absorb more languages much easier in the future?
