I'd genuinely forgotten Pascal Chimbonda. Didn't go away to Millwall or Scunthorpe that season, so only witnessed him for 16 minutes versus Forest. 16 of his 72 minutes for the club. Forever R's? |

Got hooked at half time against Villa at the start of December for the crime of losing his man in the build up to a goal and has barely featured in the league since. Seems about right, that Arsenal side is a tough watch, not surprised Arteta was gagging to drop him. |

I like Field a lot but Edwards brings arguably better quality defensive/midfield cover and I presume getting his wages off the books for a few months will help. Hayden's performance at the weekend might have been the clincher for Field. Left back cover still a problem though, obvs. |

On the Aussie flipping theory... there was a Dave Mac article a while back where he was talking about how giving players any first team minutes immediately bumps their value up... Adamson has played 69 minutes across four games so maybe there's something in the strategy, if that's what it is. |

I thought Vale was a revelation in the middle of the park, as I'd hoped he might be, but second half he fell away rapidly and should have been hooked well before he was. His lack of game fitness far more of an issue than Madsen, who was exceptional yesterday and didn't deserve to be on the losing side. |

The ref has absolutely Fredwested us there... Wrexham 12 fouling at every corner and continually hacking at Smyth, no card. Smyth first foul is a card and he has to be subbed to save him from being sent off. Mbengue, I'm not sure the second yellow was a foul let alone a card, but even if it was, we've got a minimum of 4 minutes added on, and in that time we have a sending off with Mbengue leaving the pitch after an absolute age, followed by two goals, each celebrated like they'd won best actor at the Oscars, with the band striking up to try and get them back so we can restart the game. Whistle blows on 94:47. |

I've been clinging to the hope that Vale could step in and do a job if Madsen is unavailable. He doesn't really have the pace to be out on the wing but he's a clever player, I don't think we've really found his most effective role in the side yet... |

I quite like him, but in fairness there have been audible collective groans at HQ when he turns around for the umpteenth time to lay the ball back when there are options going forward. But yeah, £6m, take it with a sell-on. Mad not to. |

There was a distinct whiff of Norwich's performance here last season about Leicester yesterday... entitled, arrogant, tetchy, far less than the sum of its parts. Cordova-Reid, Ayew, Mavididi, James - shocking attitudes, dreadful performances. |

The more games you go unbeaten, the closer you are to your next defeat... for a side like Coventry and the form they're in, they go on long runs... for a side like us, coming off the back off of a horrible run with a couple of wins, we're going to mean revert a bit quicker... And I'm sure this has been done to death elsewhere, but the schedules this week were totally out of whack... Norwich played at home on Tuesday, we went to Blackburn on Wednesday... yes I'm surprised we didn't rotate the squad but he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't... you're a genius until you're an idiot. |

It was a weird game. After we equalised they were rattled and at half time I thought they were there for the taking, but their second goal completely changed it. Esquardinha had been pretty good at Bristol City but letting the winger run past you in their first attack for the opener must have scrambled his brain, hence the absurd shot just before half time. Ipswich looked like what they were, an expensively-assembled side who played to a level you'd expect once they had a bit of confidence. I thought Philogene was a joy to watch, some lovely touches. |

Al Murray these days is about twenty minutes of material and an hour and a half of crowd work... oooh there's a bloke who works in IT, someone in HR, a student, a nurse, etc, etc... |

The vinyl is a living, growing collection, sorted alphabetically. But I've got a separate hip hop section for some reason. CDs have been ripped and retired to plastic boxes in the loft. I made the unconventional decision to sort them by year (and then alphabetically within, natch). My reasoning being that if for some reason I pick up a new CD by Alan and the Aardvarks the whole collection of CDs has to shift by one if sorted alphabetically, involving multiple box switches. If I've got a box for each year I just sling it in the appropriate one. Also you can open a box of CDs and be transported back to a time in your life and see what you were listening to at that point. Alphabetical organising doesn't give you any of that, it just sticks The Saints next to Saint Etienne. Some bands do have their own box if I've got loads of their stuff. Rules are meant to be broken. I'm still not convinced it was a great idea but it took me literally months to do and there's no going back now, at least not until I'm retired. |
