Swansea City did nothing of any real note to deserve anything from this Friday evening fixture. Despite having a referee who refused to make key decisions it was unequivocally a wasted journey for the sold out away end. Poor tactics, strategically naive and hopelessly without effort in the second half, it was a shocking watch. And all that after a decent first half.

Swansea and Wrexham are at opposite ends of the country, but the clubs have many connections. Phil Parkinson was the Bradford manager when the Swans won the League Cup at Wembley. Joe Allen, Neil Taylor, Lee Trundle, and Kristian O'Leary represented both clubs in recent times, while Brian Flynn is very fondly remembered for his two seasons managing the Swans, following 13 seasons with Wrexham.

The last time Swansea City played Portsmouth at Fratton Park it was a very cold New Years Day in 2025 on the south coast, and the Swans lost 4-0. Totally outclassed in football terms they simply didn’t turn up. Luke Williams was the head coach at that point but this game pretty much signalled the end of his time at Swansea.

Zān Vipotnik has surfaced early in summer speculation with certain sites, and of late Wales On Line (seizing on news which is two days old) about a potential departure. Some outlets are reporting that certain clubs are ahead of others, and this club or that club are in for him.
