TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Accrington Stanley
at 13:04 25 Oct 2026

Thanks TVOS. I knew we were doing well before. Didn't the drop in form happen when Paul Connor was injured (as well as switching to a back 3 to accommodate Coleman)
We were actually in and around the play offs at that time. We also played some good football including a very good win against Hull and an away draw at title faves Cardiff at Ninian Park.

Luke Rodgers scored a hat trick and then got sent off !! Was applauded off by the Dale fans for a superb performance.

Strange. My old memory playing tricks again. I genuinely thought we had been doing well up to a week or 2 before; certainly not on a long winless streak.. No doubt TVOS will correct me again !!

Wasn't that the game that Parkin (I think) brought Simon Coleman in for his first game following injury, and we completely changed how we played. Plus they had a player on fire that day in Luke Rodgers.
Funny, but even at half time I thought we were in with a chance.

Just watched the highlights and IW's post match interview. As he says; it's unacceptable from everyone (including the Management I'd say) It puts the pressure well and truly back on and they will need a huge week to recover any confidence.

Big individual errors from first goal to last all over the pitch. Only Middleton can hold his head up based on what I've seen.

I also disagree with the lateness of the substitutions but can see we are short of options and also that it's cryingly obvious that Beckwith is nowhere near fit. He should be focusing on regaining more sharpness following a long injury so shouldn't really be brought on at all yet. Sherring looks a level or three out of his depth as does Waller. That's half the defence not at the standard we need.
Midfield? I honestly didn't see any meaningful contributions from any of the three central midfield players; and haven't seen anywhere near enough effort from Francis in other matches. He needs to have a hard look at his effort and mobility.

Have to say we made Accy look a class side. There goes the myth that we haven't really had a drubbing in L2 so far ( I think Newport schooled us as did Gillingham)

Take Flint and Middleton out and we are probably currently playing at a lower standard that the last two seasons when playing at a lower level . Obviously the injuries have impacted on the strength of the team in a massive way.

It will be vital that we recover and improve from this shambolic display in the coming weeks. Hopefully we can get a couple of players back fit and rest a couple who are struggling.
It's going to be a big test again for IW following a spell where he began to win the fans over. Now he has to do it all again.

I haven't seen today's game but I well remember the 6-0 mauling we got from Plymouth. One of their goals came from a Dale corner which was passed back towards a Dale player who missed his kick allowing them to race upfield and score while all our players watched from their half.

Bangor city, Droylsden and several others were bad too. Most of Barrows tenure was as dull as ditchwater for fans...culminating in a 3-0 home defeat to Swansea which got him sacked.

Sounds like we had a very off day today and fielded 2 or 3 players who aren't fit such is the injury crisis we face.

Reports from friends at the game point to a couple of players in defence and one in Central midfield just not being good enough..

Good old Hendo to the rescue.

We huffed and puffed but didn't quite do enough if im honest. Grimsby will probably feel the did enough to win but couldn't put us away.

Happy with a hard fought point. Hopefully we have enough fit players for weekend.

We have struggled in midfield despite having 3 in there. Somehow it's not quite flowing for us tonight and grimsby look dangerous..

I thought we could easily have had a point today. As IW says, certainly two of their goals were fortunate (as was our first) but overall, we caused them a lot of problems down the flanks. As Hayes regains full match fitness we will cause plenty of problems for a lot of teams. Where we are lacking is in centre midfield as Gilmour can't do it alone and Adeeko seems to have plenty of ability but somehow goes missing at times; same for Taylor; who's decision making isn't always the best.
Oh for the Mani of last season instead of this years version. Perhaps he just needs a goal to kick start things.

If Crewe are one of the better teams in L2 then we are not too far behind them, and can take huge encouragement from the fact that we have improved significantly since that first few games when we were all over the place.

Oh for a better run of fortune with injuries. Think that's double figures of players out now...probably half of whom would start.

Probably one of our better performances for much of the half. Thought we looked dangerous especially though Hayes.
Sadly, we were undone by a deflected shot following a corner and then a howler from Wilson when there was little danger.

2-0 flatters Crewe who look no better than us but have been fortunate.

C'mon Dale.

Got to be happy with a point there. They bossed us by being direct in the first half and really should have scored a couple more.

Different story after half time when they stopped the press on midfield which allowed Adeko and Gilmour into the game.

Both goals were top quality.

Think the windy conditions played a big part in the poor passing but still an enjoyable game.

Ince will be wondering how he hasn't gone home with the match ball.

Strange half. They really should be 3 goals ahead. They've missed 2 gilt edged chances whilst we seem happy to overplay from the back and have had more of the possession without doing much. Only Hayes looking lively so far. TAR too happy to go backwards.

We need to press on more and be a bit more adventurous.

Huddersfield so much quicker than us to transition from midfield to attack.

We did have plenty of the ball but did precious little with it . Mani looks completely lost at this level. A move back to national league might benefit him and us.

Probably an embellished tale for the benefit of listeners. There will most likely be elements of truth within it mind. We had Len Hilton on the Board in the 70's/80's and he supplied the pies (won several awards iirc). It's very possible that he spoke with Kevin Lynch following a postponement at some time of the Winter, and he could well have been annoyed at wastage but 5500 meat & potato pies is stretching it; as are ducks swimming at one end whilst skating at t'other !!

Good story mind.

Pretty poor game so far. We are very lightweight upfront. Middleton once again our biggest threat but very little centrally in offence so far.
Ed Francis

Would love to see us keep a player or two upfield when we defend.

C'mon Dale.

Wilson looks so much better playing alongside Flint who has transformed the defending from chaotic to no nonsense. Tasker also had a much improved game.

Middleton had a really good game and pushed Flint for MOM.. The cross for the first goal was delicious..as were a couple of others.

Fantastic start for Dale but they look more likely at the moment. Wish we would leave a player upfield when defending set pieces. It's just coming straight back.
