I don't support the removal of IHT, but I do think the way it is applied needs to change with a sliding scale based on the value of the inheritance. In London, you will be hard pressed to find a house going for less than 500k which means everyone has to pay IHT. |

We are attractive because of our language - English is one of the most common languages in the world and as such many asylum seekers have a basic grasp of the language. Don't forget that this asylum issue is a major problem for many European countries. France, Germany both have massive issues. |

The only way to reduce the small boat crossings is to provide an alternative way of applying for asylum.
Set up application centres in Europe. |

I live right on the edge of the ulez zone. I can turn out of my street and as long as I don't turn right into one of the side streets I am fine. The expansion of ulez was part of the conditions of the tfl bailout package and in principle I have no issue with it but the timing is awful with everyone struggling financially.
The problem is that I don't think we've seen the full picture yet. In a few years time there will be almost no cars going into a ulez zone that aren't compliant, certainly not enough to cover the running costs of the scheme.
I'm fully expecting some kind of pay per mile scheme to come in within a few years [Post edited 1 Sep 2023 15:36]

But that's completely the point. I've had SLR's and DSLR's all my life. My son has a DSLR and a number of 35mm cameras he uses regularly however we don't take them with us everywhere we go as they are bulky and heavy. The camera on my phone takes great pictures and fits nicely in my pocket. |

Yeah, I've heard this argument many times about 15% interest rates - its baloney.
When you had those interest rates, mortgages were a fraction of peoples outgoings. Now 50% of peoples salary goes on a mortgage, so a 2-3% uplift is a killer. |

Where I live in south london (not one of the most expensive parts either) the cheapest 2 bedroom flat currently available to rent is £1500 a month, council tax will be around £180 and bills around £200 on top - so before you even think about buying food you have £1880 gone from your wage packet. £32k as a single income around here is food bank territory
Assuming she's on here own, the cheapest flat for rent currently is a 1 bed @ £1100 a month [Post edited 21 Jan 2023 11:12]

Having lived on the south london/surrey borders for over 25 years I have developed an appreciation for England, and its people. I have worked around the UK and found Birmingham to be exceptionally friendly, as were the people of Leeds. Manchester was interesting but I saw too many punch ups to say I'd ever return.
Bristol is a lovely city but some of the people there are (imo) strange.
I recently visited the new forest and surrounding areas, lovely place.
I rarely go into London itself, I find it incredibly overpriced, that said the Museums are amazing.
To be negative of England would be ridiculous - my kids are english, my wife is english. I have a good job, a nice house, the country has been good to me.
I still suffer from Hiraeth, and would move back home in an instant. |

The scrapping of Sizewell C may be the only sensible thing I've heard. Hinkley Point C is years behind schedule and billions over budget, in the short time I worked there I saw so much money being wasted due to incompetence and bad management.
Sizewell does not give us energy security as it will be owned and run by a foreign country. I agree with the construction of new Nuclear Power stations but they need to be owned and run by the UK. |
