Will Cyrus Christie go to the highest bidder ?
Sunday, 15th May 2022 11:52 by @Cornish67David & Keith Haynes

Cyrus Christie who ‘fell in love’ with football again during his loan spell at Swansea City has numerous suitors it seems as clubs look towards proven players for next season. Christie who had rarely played until he came to Swansea last season was a complete success in the white shirt.

Playing twenty three games and assisting on five occasions his goal tally ended on three and Christie really was a revelation after Ethan Laird was recalled by Manchester United in January. He left the club at the end of the season to return to Fulham and his contract expires next month. Christie enjoyed his football again stating “I’ve felt at home from day one and its massive when you play somewhere where the fans like you and the manager likes you - I think the players have taken to me as well. It’s kind of made me start enjoying football again — at times it has been tough over the last couple of seasons. The style really suits the way that I play even though it’s an unfamiliar position for me. As funny as it sounds, I haven’t really played wing back much, but I’ve come here and adapted to the way the manager plays”

Again the swans seem to have provided grounding for a player to re-establish their game in the championship and there are now clubs willing to fight Swansea for Christie’s signature. Christie played for Nottingham Forest for a season on loan from Fulham before finding himself again isolated at his parent club. Joining Swansea was just the boost he needed to find his feet after months out in the cold.

Now information is being circulated that Christie not only is of interest to Swansea but also to Nottingham Forest where he played forty four games on loan, and relegated Watford are also rumoured. How this information is released at this time of the season we have discussed many times on these pages, much to the confusion of some, but as always we continue to report in Swansea City matters. Simon Bayliff who looks after Christie’s interests is managing director at Areté based in London, and he has a well respected approach to managing his clients. We make it our business to go as deep as we can when rumours of this type circulate. What we do know is that if Nottingham Forest do get promoted to the premier league Christie would be an ‘unlikely’ target of Steve Cooper. On the other hand an unsuccessful play off bid could change that. Watford is interesting, they will be far more likely to lure Christie to Vicarage Road than any other club due to their financial power utilising their wealth from last season.

What we do know is that Watford do employ agents to fill certain requirements and this could possibly be the reason why Christie is linked to them.

However these clubs and others mentioned abroad ( there are a few ) could easily be from Christie’s agents themselves hence the reason why national media news agencies have picked up on it. They do nothing wrong in doing this and it does spark interest. Christie will be aware of the sort of salary he could earn at Swansea, the question is will he take a large pay cut to be a part of Russell Martin’s dream for next season, or will he go chasing far more money elsewhere ? If it’s the latter the swans won’t see Christie in SA1 next season for sure. However, Russell Martin is keen to see him back on a more permanganate deal, he is a free agent, and from June the swans can engage in talks.

Of course the subject has already been raised between Martin and Christie as the swans boss has already confirmed.

The swans do hold the aces with Christie but they have a much reduced financial budget this summer. Plus Martin does have numerous other players in every position to engage with and hopefully bring in to the club. It’s early days and we can take news like this in any way we like. If you are like us you and find it interesting and enjoy the investigative side of writing a news story such as this then the summer will be of great interest. Others will find it very hard to see through the mist and tricks of agents, news media and players searching for new deals whilst using any method they can to gain an advantage. If you stay here with us as we research and report our findings we are far sure you will have a far more exciting time and remember there is no more free radical than people. Especially when trying to understand everyone’s mindset within these deals, that is the most difficult thing to do at this time in football.

Yes if Levien and Kaplan have there way nothing coming into the club but to satisfy them shareholders they are only interested in how much money they can make out of our club with very little investment what about the club they own in the states DC United nothing is to good for that club .
