Swansea City : Andy Fisher & Jerry Yates bids expected ? Tuesday, 8th Apr 2025 17:08 by Liam Walters Andy Fisher is enjoying a decent half season at St Johnstone having found no real opportunity at Swansea City this campaign. The signing of Jon McLaughlin as a back up to Lawrence Vigouroux pushed Fisher down to third place and a loan move was most certainly his best bet in January. Last weekend he displayed some top goalkeeping skills against Celtic, earning his side the three points in a 1-0 win. Fisher has always been a confidence keeper, unable really to display the skills required with his feet at Swansea it seems that part of his game has dramatically improved over the last four months. Saints fans love him, but having spoken to a contact in Perth it’s highly unlikely they will be able to stretch to the sums needed to sign him permanently. That’s the general belief amongst the fanbase as well. Having said that of course his performances have caught the eye, the latest to speak about him the ex Blackburn, Norwich and Celtic player, Chris Sutton, now a ‘pundit’ has had his say. He tweeted the following on Sunday. “Well played St Johnstone still scrapping at the bottom but a huge 3 points gives them a bit of hope. Andy Fisher outstanding in goal. For Celtic still work to do. Not sure what has happened to Nicolas Kuhn. Still 13 points clear at the top isn’t a bad position to be in” Andy Fisher was the unchallenged man of the match on Sunday and he is still positive about his teams ambitions.“It shows we’ve bounced back from last week (Saints we’re beating 3-0 at Hibs). That wasn’t the result we wanted or the performance we wanted. But we came out and got a clean sheet and got a win against Celtic which shows we can beat anyone. We have to go out next week and get the three points or this win means nothing. Everyone wrote us off before the game. To get the win is like a bonus three points in a way. It gives us a better chance now, to hopefully go out and get another three points and claw back a bit of that difference going into the split “ ( The Scottish Premiership goes into a split of teams as the season ends) ![]() When Fisher signed for the Swans we were working hard on January targets that may have come into the club. In December we managed to announce his signing mid way through the month. We personally were delighted for him, he looked just the keeper signing the Swans required. People do have selective memories and those are mostly based on negativity for some. However, Fisher had numerous man of the match moments at Swansea City. An example is below. ⚽️ Billy the fish Andy Fish errr There is of course the possibility that he remains at the Swans as back up for his final season under contract. That would of course eliminate a decent transfer fee, and as we have heard, further cut backs are on the agenda. That’s highly unlikely to happen we are informed. Money from all angles is being recovered. Even coaches to Sunderland this week. We can expect as many transfers out as possible, and Andy Fisher (below) is in this mix. He’s never been at such a saleable level since joining the Swans. ⚽️ What Saints fans think ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In other news we can confirm that Derby County see an offer of around one and a half million pounds as the maximum they want to be involved in to get Jerry Yates (below). As we know that will come in instalments, generally these days that covers the length of the players contract after an initial fee. The obvious add ons will be goals and a sell on, the latter a long shot, but you never know. The Swans preferred a fee including per goals scored when Joel Piroe left the Swans for Leeds. In fact the exigencies of contracts these days are a minefield. We expect Derby to come in with some low baller offers to test out the Swans resilience. ![]() Joel Piroe report ⚽️ In depth Piroe We do have some news we are working on regards the managerial position at the Swans. And we can conform Rob Edwards is not on any list for Swans manager. That won’t happen. Alan Sheehan leads his side as interim head coach tomorrow night against Plymouth Argyle. The Pilgrims now in a desperate position to get points and avoid relegation. Our match day preview starts in the morning. The Indy forum is already underway.
