Swansea City : Matos deal not yet agreed but it will happen …
Thursday, 20th Nov 2025 11:42 by Swansea Independent

As of this morning Maritímo are still fighting to retain the services of Vitor Matos amidst speculation he is close to signing for Swansea City as head coach. There has also been a bizarre report that it will cost the Swans €1,000,000 to release Matos from his contract.

And those reports were jumped on by media outlets who clearly haven’t done their basic homework.

The one thing which has to come out of all this will be Matos has to eventually be head coach at Swansea City, and having been contacted by two Portuguese sports outlets they tell us the same. They too are stating that the million euro release clause is rather wide of the mark. When you look at CS Maritímo as a club it’s highly unlikely they would insert such a clause as it works both against them as well as for them. Portuguese clubs would be loathe to pay that amount at even the top levels in their football pyramid. On Matos being appointed in the summer on a two year contract at Maritímo there would have been no expectation whatsoever that a club of the Swans size would be in for him.

Of course people change their minds and really the only person who can mess this up is Matos himself. That’s not likely to happen as he is reported locally in Madeira as desperately wanting to come to Swansea. We have to question the million euros release clause, purely because we have been told by those who report on these matters in Portugal and especially Madeira it’s totally incorrect. Their belief is that the whole package (but proceed with caution) is in and around that figure, but thats everything. Discussions have taken place as to Matos preferences on his coaching staff and indeed how he wants the Swans coaching set up to look like when he arrives.

We see the main issues as we reported last evening.

⚽️ Matos money matters

Outlets can report ad hoc information without true journalistic effort in reaching out and discussing the facts with people who know, we choose differently. These things are extremely fluid, what is news one minute is chip paper the next. But we do understand our thousands of loyal followers appreciate our journalism, and you are the ones that matter most. You made your own minds up and tell us every day how much you enjoy our wider angles on Swansea City. It’s a perfect match.

As you always rightly point out in such matters, "There's nothing to see here citizens, move on" 🤔👏👌🏅!
