Wales v Norway : Bellamy’s spoken …
Thursday, 1st Oct 2026 15:59 by Swansea Independent

It’s the third game of four in this slow moving three week international break and it’s pretty hard to think Wales are only half way through their four game allocation. Then there’s two more in November.

Here they are.

Having played two away games and lost both to Portugal and Denmark, the former gave hope the latter despair there just has to be at least four points for Wales tonight and on Sunday against Denmark. Both are at home. Why ? Well, you only have to see the remaining fixtures in November to see they are easily lost. One away and one at home. Away in Norway and home to Portugal. This is a very tough group and Wales are up against sides which would give the rest of Europe a run for their money.

Four points from the next two home games may well mean something dramatic is needed in November to gain a third place play off place. But four points could do it.

Two best third-placed teams. Stay in League A automatically
Other two third-placed team. Promotion/relegation play-off
Two best fourth-placed teams. Also get a play-off
Other two fourth-placed teams. Relegated directly

We are already talking best case scenarios against sides who are most certainly better than Wales this campaign across this group.

Craig Bellamy expects another demanding test when Wales host Norway tonight, describing the visitors as an impressive side in every department. “Norway are an outstanding team,” he said, praising their build-up play, pressing and organisation as Wales prepare for another examination at the highest level of the Nations League. For Bellamy, the priority is ensuring Wales operate as a tighter, more coordinated unit. “We have to be compact, we have to work together.” He accepted responsibility for the lack of clarity in the Denmark defeat, acknowledging that the distance between defence and attack had been too great. Those gaps must close if Wales are to compete effectively tonight.

Erling Haaland provides the most obvious threat. “The guy’s a machine,” Bellamy said, highlighting the striker’s exceptional combination of size, mobility and appetite for goals. The Wales manager knows his side must adapt to combat that threat, but regards facing a player of Haaland’s quality as an exciting challenge.
