i think the whole of London has changed (for the worst) and its not the same place that you , i , our fathers and grandfathers remember it by
going back to the football bit, the days of kids living up the road from the ground and going to football are long gone, its a business now
and that means people from the suburbs who want to sit in a nice ground with a coffee and a bagel rather than a load of spotty herberts smoking at the back of the stands with a bovril, the game is sanitised to death now, you cant even swear or stand up without being thrown out or people telling you off
the game, the players, the grounds, the clubs and communities you i and the a lot of us remember are long gone and never coming back |
Bovril and swearing! Ah those were the days. Going to a match these days is like going to the theatre, all rules and flounces. As the atmosphere becomes sanitised, so does the football.
Talking of West Ham, a once very unsanitary ground, I recall in the past when I used to half listen to Talk Sport once in a while, that every other caller to that station was a West Ham fan or sounded like one and they were always called Colin. Is this still the case? If not then I expect that station is now plagued with sanitised Mourinho/ Gangstervitch era Chelsea followers called Terry or John! I must listen in someday to find out.
