Boycott the FA Cup 16:58 - Jan 6 with 7760 viewstheselector

Most rangers fans are doing it anyway, but next year let's make it official. The club doesn't care so we should we?

This is from a 2001 study of the decline of the FA Cup:

'Szymanski attributes this startling decline of interest in the FA Cup to the relative imbalance of the competition. The most striking feature of the distribution of income in football over the last quarter of a century has been the growth of inequality between rather than within the divisions. This growth of inequality has reduced interest in inter-divisional matches while intra-divisional matches are more interesting in the context of the League.'

'In 1988, 92% of all FA Cup matches involving teams from the same division had higher attendance than at the equivalent League match. By 2000, the figure was only 30%.'

What would be the point of that? Holloway picked a strong team and we were completely on top today when Scowen's howler gave them the lead. After that they got away with breaking up our play but feigning injuries and industrial levels of time-wasting

Agreed, there is no point and it will make us look stupid. OK, our record in the competition is utterly appalling but take a step back and think about what happened: We made just one change, so the team was strong, and we lost by a single goal, to a team in the division below. It's not like we put out the kids and them got thrashed by Wimborne Town.

I really feel we fans need to stop living on the edge of outrage.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

The Champions League has cheapened everything.

This FA cup record is beyond a joke. In fairness IH did pick a team to win the game but the footballing gods conspired against us yet again.

Next season (if we get a home draw) we should make it £1 a ticket for home supporters, fill the place up and give it another go.

A sensible suggestion.

£5 for adults and kids go free. Surely they would make plenty more than last weekend?

I didnt know the result until 9pm on Saturday night due to complete lack of interest!

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

Highly likely to be the cause. It's not a level playing field and the inconsistencies across all Divisions where we're under FFP whilst Courtino sells for £142 Mil, the whole thing is fcked. 30 years ago there were achievable permatations in which anyone could win the FA Cup. Now it invariably goes to one of the top six.
So not much point in engaging with it, which many Managers haven't by fielding weakened teams. Used to love the Cup games, replays, possibilities, and enjoy the Finals who ever got through.
Seem to recall one year Arsenal and Villa played about 4 replays at Hillsborough, seemed to go on for weeks as a boy. And neither side would capitulate because it was important. I know we went out on Saturday but hard to square Arsenal as holders went out too to Florists.
So wtf would anyone be 'boycotting and protesting' for or against?

Is the fans dream dead though unless you’re a top 6 supporter?

When I was a kid in the 80s Liverpool dominated most things but on the odd occasion they were knocked out of the cup, it was anyone’s really. Wimbledon and Coventry won it, QPR & Watford came close, Luton & Oxford won the League Cup for Christ’s sake.

The old Sports Action VHS from 88/89 onwards, every clubs season review and then you had Goals Galore and Race for the Championship. A much more even playing field back then, you had Norwich City and Aston Villa and even Crystal Palace in 90/91 running Liverpool and Arsenal close for much of the season. Every August you dared to dream this season could be your year. It was possible after all and for me, that’s where the drug came from. The love for football. The magazines, the FA Cup sticker wall charts you’d get from the bookman at primary school. The Wembley board game… the prestige, it’s just not there anymore. The magic has died, the money men have taken last bit of soul from the competition. Finishing fourth is more important than winning the FA Cup. It shouldn’t be but that’s the reality because that’s where the financial reward is for the money men. Finishing fourth over parading the FA Cup in your town centre as winners. Well I never.

Officially 14,507, but it doesn't look half full. Plenty of players missing, so another reason to stay away.

Isn't there a Southern Rail strike as well which would obvioulsy have an effect on the attendance.

I've got the Power.
