Remember Stanley Unwin with Flowers Keggybit ? The Chas n Dave Courage Best ad was great too, just a shame the beer was poor. Now Courage Directors was a bloody good beer on handpump in those days. Those of us lucky enough to live in Southwest London of course had Youngs and Fullers. The loss of Youngs was a savage blow.

Young’s brews always made me feel like I was drinking something that could reappear shortly after I’d finished it. As for Fullers, I wonder how they’ll fair now they’ve been acquired by the Japanese?

Hopefully not all doom in the old parish. During my last time living in London a couple of years back, we were not far from the Sambrooks Brewery in Battersea. Lot of long beards and tatts, but knocking out a few decent brews.

Fullers pubs are crap...and Youngs pubs were always rank and smell of old uncleaned pipes .... See a Youngs sign for a boozer, just ignore it and move on. Horrible pubs.

Horses for courses I guess......it would be a boring world if we all agreed on everything. I loved Youngs beer and often sought solace in a few pints of Special after a Rangers defeat. I grant you, their pubs might not have been to everyone's taste. As for Fuller Smith and Turner, or Full o' Shit and Turnips as some would have it, I think they have some fine boozers including the Dove and the Andover in Hammersmith, the Mawson in Chiswick, the Albert in Whitton and loads more. I'm feeling thirsty now.

A Double Diamond works wonders. That's an ad from way back but it was crap beer though.

In a time of appalling beer 🍺 it was almost the only thing drinkable

Strong and stable my arse.

My local was a Young's pub called The Junction Arms on the banks of the Grand Union canal in Park Royal.
Fantastic times and great memories playing for Park Royal F.C.
Outside loo with a view of the sky, a small stage at the back of the public bar where anyone could sing, a real old fashioned proper local pub.
Young's Special was my favourite.

I know the Junction. I had a job in Coronation Road and used to have a few pints of Special in there at lunchtimes. Made the afternoons interesting !

Get yourself down to Dorset and have a Stowford Press. Quite possible the greatest cider in the world.
