Online beer ordering/subscription 19:24 - Mar 31 with 5820 viewsthame_hoops

Does anyone use any of those companies that you subscribe to for monthly beer packages sent to your door?.

I use brewdog as I bought shares and get discount but was looking to find something different.

Beer52 popped up with an offer for first order, anyone use these and can recommend any?

I haven't done any of the beer subscriptions, but what I have done, is invest in a growler! The Bristol Beer Factory Tap room is a 5 minute walk away, and after spending £20 on the growler, I now get 3.3 pints of any of their beers to takeaway for £8, so £2.42 a pint. Bargain. Some of them sell for £5.50 upwards in the more expensive places in town. Good times. Lovely fresh beer, no recycling, and usually about ten of their beers to choose from.

The tap room's a five minute walk from Ashton Gate, and well worth a visit next time Rangers are playing down there.

Some good breweries down here and most have Tap rooms/pubs/bars: Arbor, Wiper & True, Left Handed Giant, Good Chemistry, Moor Beer, Wild Beer, Bristol Beer Factory, New Bristol Brewery, Dawkins, Lost & Grounded... this is making me want to go to a pub.

Their Milk Stout is my favourite beer. Bloody hate spoilt beer bstards from Bristol. Choice is too good with BBF, Arbor, Moor, Wiper & true, Tapestry and so on..

It's a great Milk Stout. Moor Beer, and Wiper & True's Milk stouts are lush as well. Quite partial to Wild Beer's Millionaire, now I think of it; salted caramel, chocolate and Milk Stout... lovely.

Add Deya (Cheltenham), Arbor (Bristol), Burnt Mill (Suffolk) and Kernel (London) to that list and it's spot on.

Deya are so good, but their stuff sells out so quickly!

Used Beer 52 for three months. I conclude that the majority of Craftbeers are not very nice at all and a hand full are okay but certainly not worth the price they demand. Infact the nearer to the taste they get to a mainstream beer the higher marks they get making the whole Craftbeer fad a bit of a phony bollocks.

One final thing, Wheatbeer (Weisbeir) is there anyone on the planet who actually enjoys that awful shit?

They actually seem to have stock for longer these days, nearly always three or four available online. The brewery expanded around nine months back. Regular visitor to their taproom here, at least I was. One thing I do find is the 'core' beers can change batch to batch, from being unique and delicious to much more mainstream fare. I'm not sure why, probably a mix of experimentation, different brewers and margins being cut on occasion. There's certainly some duff craft beer around too, mixed box offers from online shops are likely to use these offers to shift less popular/quality 'craft' beer. A little research goes a long way when drinking craft beer. Downside is when you get used to proper beer (some craft) mainstream commercial beers tastes like sugared water (lagers) or cold tea and chestnut (traditional English ale).

I am drinking a delicious bottle of Maisels Weisse as I type this! I love Wheat Beer! Quite partial to Belgian and Dutch ones, but Germany is the place to go. Great on a hot day, great on a cold day; can't get enough of the stuff. Very, very drinkable. It's all I drink in Germany and in Eastern Europe, where loads of bars have them on tap. My favourites of the big players that you can get easily enough over here:

1) Maisels Weisse
2) Schneider Weisse Tap 7
3) Paulaner
4) Franziskaner
5) Erdinger

The only beer types I can't do are sours/saisons and bad lager. Like pretty much everything else.

I guess that answers my question...

To me its cloudy, sour aftertasting nastiness. Seriously, I dont know any person ive been in the presence of who liked it or even finished one.

Guy Ritchie may be more famous for giving Vinnie Jones a job after we’d had enough of him, but he has also turned his hand to brewing. Surprisingly he’s done a very good job and his English Lore is a delicious pint - bottles can be ordered from Gritchie - his brewery. I think you’ll be very pleasantly surprised.

Oooh, Hammerton N7- I was always partial to that. I love a draft Gamma-Ray from Beavertown, too. And I always get a bit excitable when I see Soundwave from Siren on tap - don't see it that often, but that is a cracking pint.

Sorry Fulham buddy but Gamma-Ray is, for me, undrinkable these days. It used to be fantastic on draught but just prior to the take over of Beavertown it changed and has only got worse since. Not just the taste was altered but the appearance changed from a fairly hazy, unfiltered one to clear and even a different colour.

That might just be my bad luck, as it always change batch to batch, but numerous tins and pints put me off.

Each to their own....

Agree with you on the wheat beers, many are excellent, and sours/saisons turn my stomach but no Gamma Ray for me these days.

It's a shame as four years back it was one of my favourite pints.

Sorry to hear that. I’ve been away from London for 3 years now, so have probably only had it 2-3 times since then. Used to drink it regularly in London and spent a few afternoons on it at the Tap room. I do like an unfiltered beer - New Bristol Brewery in er, Bristol, do a lot of those and they’re very drinkable.

Talking of Tottenham breweries - I really enjoy Hopspur by Redemption, and Andy Moffat who founded Redemption is a really nice bloke too.

Oh, and Weihenstephaner should have been on my list of enjoyable German Weisses readily available in the UK. Love a drop of that. And I’m not alone - I’ve got a couple of mates who love their wheat beers! For all of us, it was what got us off lager, before the craft beer revolution.

I love Cwtch, but find their other beers a bit flowery/fruity or weird.

These are 8 for £9 in Tesco's Fleet Street.

One of the best Pale Ales I've had as I find most rather bland compared to the IPA's
