I don't think it can be purely down to having a rest (though that may be telling in itself - some players sulk or despair when dropped, some take the chance to work on their game and use it as motivation to get back in)

It's the switch to right back that seems crucial, and I have to say I would never have thought of that as being a better position for him than centre half. It's like Paul Parker in reverse.

Loads of credit to all concerned for spotting the potential and following through, long may it continue.

In the grand scheme of things I think a lot of it is down to having a proper manager as he's really transformed these players .

100%.

All the great managers seem to have the knack of getting every player to know what their role is.
The exact same players look better because they are getting on with their job, starting with the simple things, plus they trust the other guys to do theirs and don't hare off out of position to fix other players' screw-ups.

Obviously you still get beaten by better sides, the more complicated things don't always come off for more limited players, but that's normal, no-one is screaming at each other about that.
