POSITIVES:

- We were always going to lose this one and I'm glad it wasn't through a ref robbery like one of the last times we went there (Ashley Young offside, penalty given for nothing and red card to Shaun Derry).

Well...that's the only positive I've found.

Moving on:

- We were doing quite OK until that silly foul from Clint Hill. We were in good shape there and he had no need to foul their player (was it Herrera?). From that, Di Maria scored even without trying to score.

- I didn't understand anything of what happened after that goal.

1. We didn't go for it (I was expecting us to do so) and we didn't park the bus either.

2. Matt Phillips had another opportunity to make it 1-1 in the first half (just like against Spurs) and just like against Spurs, he blew it. Horrible shot when he had Charlie to his left and the keeper was nowhere near his goal. Not saying that goal could have change anything, but it's the second time it happens to the same player and you never know how some events can change a game.

3. The subs:
- Traore for Hill. Why? I think starting Clint as left back in the first place, was a mistake. Especially at that ground and against those players.
- Vargas on for Charlie? Old Trafford was roaring right after they scored their 4th. Some debut to be given to our new striker. Who does he replaces? The man who could have kept him company as we forgot about the three points and actually tried to score at least one. Some consolation. A bit of joy, maybe.
- Sandro injured. Karl Henry in his place. Nothing would have changed anything at that point. So there's nothing to say here.

I'm worried by the lack of responses and the incredible gulf there is with the top teams. Worried about how other small clubs can get something every now and then against top sides and we never seem to adapt well enough.

Worried because against the smaller teams we are never certain of getting a result either.

Tactics. We need to improve them.

Team selection. We need to get it right.

In-game adjustments. What's that?

We do sometimes (Chelsea) but for the most part I agree.

When a team is bringing Falcao on and we're bringing on Karl Henry you've got to accept there's a massive difference between us and them.

I thought Sandro looked really good initially. Fer looked excellent when he had the ball. After the first goal and, in particular, after Phillips miss most players seemed resigned to loosening.

However, Traore looked positive when he came on & showed that pace could hurt them. Also thought that Kranjcar showed some good touches as did Isla & Vargas later on.

I think there are plenty of teams that we'll give problems to this year. For sure we need reinforcements up front and need to go with pace at the back though.

If we are gonna play badly, let it be against teams where we never expected to get anything anyway. In our last season in the Prem we often seemed to raise our game against the top teams (usually losing anyway) and then were diabolical against the sides around us.

Against Sunderland we needed a big performance and 3 points and we got it. Today was always gonna be a loss, and we were missing 2 important players in our midfield, players who actually had matches under their belt, replacing them with 2 players with no preseason and no match fitness. So we got tonked. But a defeat is just a defeat.

Good post, that's pretty much how I saw it.

To be honest I thought a lot of it was that yet again we went to a bigger team and just didn't believe we deserved to be there.

There was a gulf in class but to be honest had we equalised through Phillips then I think it could have been a very different game.

We lacked pace until Traore came on and BTW Charlie was taken off to protect his hamstring. I also thought that Henry actually tightened our midfield up when he came on.

Over all, the worry is the total lack of fire power and belief away from home. We have to concentrate on attacking teams. If you go to Spurs and Man Utd and try to catch them on the break you will get hammered every time.

Never knowingly right.
Poll: How long before new signings become quivering wrecks of the players they were?

Positives I guess for me where:

1) we didn't let Falcao score on his debut, and turn the whole day into even more of a Man United w**k-fest..
2)kept our discipline and didn't get anyone sent off in the second 4-0 loss..
3) Sandro, Vargas, Niko got some game time
4) Hopefully its the last time Hill plays left back in the Prem.. Traure did well when he came on, although more as an attacking threat than a defensive rock..
5) the last time we lost 4-0 we won the next game.... clutching at straws now!
