Incredible.

It's amazing how little most things have changed, it still all looks really familiar despite almost 100 years passing.

That and the hats. We should all wear more hats.

Good to see Londoners also dashed to cross the road in front of buses in those days too.

I noticed the hats, those flat caps are too wide though, my face is long I'd look like a rivet if I wore one.

I'd have had a trilby/20's equivalent.

With your musical taste you wouldn't be a pop rivet !!!!!

The skyline is amazing, not one tall building.

I love the way the shiny white new buildings on the river are what we now call Art-Deco.

My Nan was 3 when that was filmed, it seems like a different age but clearly is in one lifetime.

I agree, although that might be partly because of the streets chosen to film in.

Probably the part that has changed the most is the Thames, which was still a working river full of barges and cranes (about 1:20 in the film).

We should all go back to the days where a hat defined your status. Glorious.

Awesome video.

As for the hats, they are being worn by the young baldies. In those days it was embarassing to be young and bald (remember how even middle aged men used to cling on with their comb over!) whereas nowadays the thirtysomethings just say "fúck it" as soon as they see they're balding and just brazenly shave the rest off.

On a related note, I remember seeing this underground map (also from 1927) and being surprised how much had already been built then.

For those of you that don't know.

Interesting! That big block of flats in both the black and white photo and the colour photo is The Grampians. Certain naughty boys used to run in there and annoy the caretaker, once upon a time.

It must have been nice to alight and go for a pint in the Richmond.

Good old days. The District Line from Hounslow West, Uxbridge to Southend. Think you had to change trains, literally, from electric to steam at Barking.

Plenty station names changed too. Alight at Walham Green for the Scum.

Most intriguing. London as my old man would have seen it as a child back in the 20's.

The ladies fashions, men wearing black, brown or grey clothes and the cars, that came in all colours provided it was black. And of course the hats! I agree with an earlier poster, we must have more hats. I have a penchant for them, my favourite being a brown flat cap I bought in London years ago. I featured on the front cover of an R's programme back in '84 donning said brown cap. The photo was taken at a game on a bitterly cold night against Southampton. [Gary Waddock was the main feature of the photo, not me ]. I still wear it to this day. I would blend in quite nicely with some of the blokes in that film with that cap.

There aint half been some clever bastards.
