I got my first cat recently (Roxy). 04:33 - Jul 7 with 4141 viewstimcocking

Didn't think i liked them, my daughter made me do it. I love dogs.

I have to say, two months in, i'm astounded how much i love the little beast. I can't see anyway there will ever be a time when i don't have a cat until i can't, for whatever reason. Probably averaging several hours a day playing with her at the moment, when it's not me, the missus has her.

And no trouble at all! House trained from the 1st minute. Not 1 accident yet. She doesn't leave hairs around the place, i love the smell of her. Excellent addition to my life.

dogs rule, end of!

but despite never having had a pussy; i still think they are a great addition to a family, especially if the dog option can't be fulfilled. I truly believe that any form of pet is great; just brings a different dynamic to a household.

Cats!!! Horrible murderous creatures, especially here where we have unique wildlife. There are millions of them dumped in the bush over here, maybe it's down to irresponsible humans. Whatever they are a serious problem.

Can't disagree with that. It's a shame they're so predisposed to be murderous. Have to keep her away from the birds.

Spot on. Dog and cat are so different, having one is a seperate experience completely from having the other. But they are both excellent.

As my old man says "you own a dog, but a cat chooses to own you when it wants"

Always hated cats then the missus rescued one 11 years ago and he got right under my skin. The little fella still going strong and caught a small rat last night.

Then I was dead set against getting a dog even though I've loved 'em since a kid. Just thought it'd upset the dynamic and routine of my life
I succumbed and I was right
Allowing my missus to bring that labrador home 4 and half years ago was simply the best choice ever made. I love that dog to bits.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I am a cat man. Since I was born. They have a real karma about them. I like all animals, dogs etc, they are all creatures that make our lives better. Can't understand people that don't have time for pets.

Never knowingly right.

Cats are ok if kept indoors. Woman next door used to have 3 and let them all out to shite on my garden. Thats the trouble with the m , they shite on everyone elses property except there own, which is great if your the owner .

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

A recent experiment carried out on Horizon's Little Cat Diaries to see whether cats have any attachment to their owners:

Always been an animal person. Grew up with all sorts from cats and dogs to salamanders and pythons (don't agree with keeping snakes) and a home isn't a home for me without pets. With the missus between us we've got two border terriers, a golden labrador, two tortoiseshell cats and a classic moggy fighter (my fave) and three ponds in the garden that are currently full of newts and tadpoles.

Having had pets in my life since day one I really don't understand people that don't have them. They're so enriching, Always proud when Kia kills a Magpie (murderous bastards) despite being 10+ as I hate those f*****g birds.

And why do you have a dog avatar then?

When our huge lurcher Leo,the fastest eight stone dog you ever saw, died we weren't going to get another animal. Then Wally showed up.Female, but looked like a right wally know what I mean?First cat we've had but necessary on the smallholding, don't half keep the rodent population down.Vicious little bastard but has got a bit more amenable now I've been stuffing its face with treats.Has this annoying habit of catching small birds,BUT drops them at my feet as a gift and they fly off.Cat looks around bemused -where's it gone? - what a f*cking wally

Never liked dogs bad enough walking on their crap let alone having to follow one around and picking it up

cats far better ,pretty sure i read that cats always poo next door as they dont want bigger predators to know where they live they also use to dig a little hole and cover it over to disguise the smell from a predators, however they do this less and less now due to them using cat litter

We had Irish Wolfhounds. I love Hounds.

One day, Jake and Archie got in amongst a field of sheep and went berserk.

They literally ripped half of them to pieces, entrails flying left, right and centre. Still one of my more shocking experiences that was. (i was only young). We had to send them abroad to avoid the repurcussions.

Wouldn't have been so bad, but our Wolfhound Grizzy had just won best of breed in Crufts for the second years running (Champion Aelius Elfrida) and her son (Champion Quethiock Man of War i think he was?) had picked up best in show (under two years of age), which made him in theory the best young dog on planet Earth. To us, he definitely was. Irish Wolfhounds, when perfectly formed, are a wonderful sight to behold in full flight, truly majestic.

Grizzy, God bless her, died on my Mum's birthday and they've never been able to get another dog it affected them so much when she passed away. I shall try and wean them onto the idea by cunningly using my Cat. Very, very sadly missed.

Owners who don't pick up their dogs crap are scum and give the rest of us a bad name..... Mostly staffy owners funnily enough

As for people who use parks for picnics well if the rubbish left out this morning from yesterday's gatherings is anything to go by then they need to be chased around with cattle prods. The wrappers are actually lighter after you've brought stuff to the park so less effort to take home but apparently not

too true

living in the sticks its taken a bit longer for the typical staffy owner to develop.

now the youngsters all think they are hard having a dog they can't control due to lack of training (them or the dog) and let them crap everywhere. not the dogs inbreeding that worries me!

and local park full of leftovers today as the 4 bins are too far away at 20 feet for the poor things to carry their rubbish back; kants, the lot of them.
