Touch of the Matt Connolly syndrome about him in that he's exactly the same player now as he was when he was 18.
When he first came on the scene at Southampton, and then signed for us, he was enthusiastic with potential but quite a poor first touch and fairly lousy technique at times. Now he's quite enthusiastic with declining potential because his first touch is still poor and his technique is still fairly lousy at times.
Look at the improvement in Jamie Mackie's game over the last two years, during which he was out for nine months with a broken leg, and look at the lack of any progress of any sort in Blackstock and Connolly over the last six years.

I always hoped he would come good one day. Like Bothroyd (although not as unconvincing as Bothroyd) he lacked the lethal touch of a true striker, preferring to float or guide the ball into the net (not that he didn't score scruffy goals every now and then). Whenever I saw Forest on The Football League show last season he had problems getting into the game.
I wonder if his stagnation is due to his own limitations, or just never finding the right coach?
There's also the mystery of how Blackstock was sold and the fall of Sousa. Wasn't there a rumour that Blackstock was critical of the owners?
without his goals in the 06/07 season we'd have gone down and not a chance of the whole flavio/Bhatia/Fernades era. We'd be a very different club now. We owe that team, no matter who crap they were a huge amount.
Paul Furlongs late winner against Luton imo, saved this football club from years of lower tier football

The Loft went from absolute despair when Count Campula was mugged at his near post by Bell's cross to absolutely mental when that Furlong header went in.

Very, very harsh to blame Camp for that goal. No mention of the point blank one on one save from Talbot in the second half to keep it at 1-2 either.

Do we owe them? I'm grateful. But we don't owe them anything. We paid money then as we do now. Without our work when in League 1 they wouldn't have had a club to save.
I think with the current management team when Blackstock was first with us he would have improved. The Briatore regime with a different manager and system practically every month can't have helped his development and it could be that as much as anything at a critical time in his career that had an impact on his lack of improvement. We are now the opposite of that horrible time and young players with ambition would do well to consider QPR as a club where they can learn their trade.
My son will never forgive Briatore for getting rid of Blackstock as he had a shirt with Dexter on the back done about 2 weeks before he went to Forest.
The thing with Blackstock was he didn't't anticipate, was always on his heels, just behind the ball. Bit like Bothroyd. Compare with Cisse's goal against Stoke, where he gambled always anticipating and it paid off. Likewise his goal at City.

Back from serious injury, played 24 scored 8 in a poor performing Forest. I from 3 is not bad in anybody's language. Still only 26, he is not finished yet.
More like Forest don't have similar ambitions to young Dexter. He doesn't think Cotterill will get the financial backing from the board. I am sure Forest would be glad to hang on to him.
Dexter will do OK for Celtic. If the wrong Rangers aren't accepted into the SPL it will be a 1 horse race, instead of the usual 2.
