I agree. That’s why I specifically chose teachers and nurses as examples. It a concern that as the minimum wage creeps towards professions like those we’ll see more strikes. |

Yet they seem to be very pro EU. |

I assume because they’ve not found the career linked to their degree. Teachers, nurses etc tend to go into their profession, at least for a while. |

Fiscal drag has made the gaps incredibly small. For context, with the latest rise in minimum wage, a minimum wage worker will earn about £30 a week less than a first year teacher who will additionally have £50k of debt. |

Is it that he’s got back in on a pro EU mandate? I can understand with their history being part of a bigger bloc is comforting… |

I don’t understand this one. The government have done a lot of work to protect polish sovereignty which has put then at odds with the EU. I assumed that they’d go for a Polexit but having read around it a bit it seems that it’s not what the public want. All seems a bit odd and more like a clash of egos than serving the public. |

I don’t think it’s a self destruct button, more a ‘press for more money’ button. |

Couldn’t agree more. If there needs to be a case proved for government overreach or two tier justice then this bloke is not the poster boy to do it. Agreeing with him doesn’t justify his crimes. |

I agree it’s intolerable but the idea that a huge reduction cannot be called a good thing because it’s not zero seems to me to be a bit unrealistic. Unfortunately I don’t think zero is even possible but we need it as an aim and continue to move in that direction. |

None. But it is far more difficult to achieve than many of our politicians pretend and 40% reduction is a good thing. Taking the stance that no measure is good until that figure I zero is an admirable target but not realistic. I’d bet if Reform were in power and in their first year they knocked thousands of the figure, many of those disparaging Labour would be shouting it from the rooftops. It’s no secret what I think of Reform, but I will say they have challenged the establishment, given a section of society a voice and encouraged more people to show and interest in politics. These are good things. It’s a shame that some can see no good in a 40% reduction in boat crossings. [Post edited 30 Oct 22:37]

But how is that two tier? It’s fair to have concerns about states becoming too authoritarian, but that’s a long way from claiming SYL is a political prisoner. |

These are terrible. Reducing the number of entrants by 40% is a good thing. Both thoughts are possible. At no point have I supported illegal immigration. |
 | Forum Reply | Stephen Yaxley at 21:48 30 Oct 2026
So there’s two tier justice but both the right and left are being treated the same? |
 | Forum Reply | Andy Burnham at 21:34 30 Oct 2026
Tiny numbers of people and unworkable. I go back to my original point that people who can’t say a 40% reduction is a good thing is ideological. Those who want warships in the ocean and gun turrets across the south coast need to come to terms with that fact that it won’t happen no matter who they vote for. Because it’s a bit mad. |

Mainly because I don’t see any issue with any of his convictions. I’m not for abolishing juries but what’s the point if in cases such as Robinson’s last one which was a jury trial, people still call stitch up? That article (unsurprisingly) from the guardian talks about political prisoners from the left - climate action and Gaza. Is your point that the government is imprisoning people from both sides? I’m not sure that makes sense. |

Your first paragraph has nothing to do with your second paragraph. Two tier for Tommy Robinson? Which of his convictions have been incorrect? In the last case, were the jury wrong? |

If only it were so simple. |
 | Forum Reply | Andy Burnham at 17:20 30 Oct 2026
It’s awful. I’m glad that the numbers doing it are 40% down. |

I what way is he a political prisoner? |
