Tenacity, grit and determination - as you say, some of the key attributes required when up against in games and also getting shit online.
That incident you called out, perfectly reflects Smyth’s abundance of these traits. It also rubs off on others when you see these standards being applied by teammates.
However, I guess they must be very personal and almost impossible to coach, because they have been missing in more allegedly skilled and ‘progressive’ players who have been going backwards and/or missing in games recently. |

Expectations are relative matters, somewhat dependent on context and position of strength/weakness.
Given what we have spent, who we select, how the club is managed and what many people expect, we have been a disgrace recently.
Not just on the pitch but off it too. Both are major concerns

Whilst very happy with today’s result, it was a little bizarre on reflection.
Change the two players who have made selection fairly questionable, yet still bring them on late in the game regardless.
Play Morgan in a role he can succeed in but have Hayden seemingly not knowing his job.
Persist with Walsh, who could have saved the goal we conceded.
Puppets on strings at times. I still don’t get it but there’s a pass because we probably won’t have a relegation struggle and there was some entertainment for once.
My expectations are at the lowest they have been in 40 years+ of supporting the club but a win is a win at this stage. |
