Think Hayden has made a positive impression too and both Hodge and Frey scored important goals. Notwithstanding their merits, offloading Dozzell to a relegation rival is the best transfer business we've done in years. [Post edited 29 Apr 14:54]

For me the most impressive thing about Marti is that he is ruthless, as shown by him getting rid of both Kakay and Dozzell. He recognised that neither of them is up to the required standard and jettisoned them. That augurs well for the summer. |

That Paal equaliser against Huddersfield and Jimmy's scorcher against Birmingham are hard to separate as we shot ourselves in the foot generally against teams scrapping down the bottom. Keeping parity and even gaining points on those two, both of whom could go down, was vital. Plus we didn't play well on either occasion. |

What Marti has done is incredible and Friday's performance was the best I've seen from us in years. Credit to whoever identified him. However, it does show how much of the last decade has been wasted on lazy, half-arsed appointments. Bhatia appointed Ainsworth because he had "an itch to scratch". Imagine giving your boss that excuse for some f*ck-up at work. You sense with the new CEO, that the grown-ups are back in the room (even if they're under 30) and we have plans in place, rather than drifting nowhere. |

He played well last night but under no circumstances should he get another year. Let's move on; we need a mobile keeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and I'm certain Marti will recognise that for his style of play. |

Yeah, I agree. Ramsey was a nonsensical appointment, so I'm not surprised to hear him portrayed in a negative light. Not sure what's so bad about having a Gola bag or tying your tracksuit top round your waist though. Nedum looks petty doing this. I guess it's because football coverage relies on bantz now, such as slagging off your former manager on a podcast. |

Yes, it's the failure to command his box that has most surprised (and terrified) me. Was he always so flat-footed or is it an age thing? |

Adds more excitement for Friday night tbh. We still need a win to be safe, though obviously Huddersfield beating Birmingham on Saturday would do it too. [Post edited 22 Apr 13:59]

He's definitely been less effective recently, though you could argue that if he'd scored all of the shots he's narrowly missed in those matches, we'd be having another discussion. He's only 29, so one would think he's still got plenty left in his legs and with a full pre-season will be a valuable player next season. |

Yes, he really stood out, not just for the barnet. Someone had posted on the match thread to watch out for him as he was back from injury. |
| Forum Reply | Next season - 4 key players for us to keep at 07:19 22 Apr 2024
Absolutely. JCS's performances have changed so many of our minds this season but we can't hold onto players like him if we want to evolve. Sell big and sign a promising replacement must be the model. Elsewhere, we need a new goalkeeper, a couple of strikers, a Hayden type in midfield (he's too expensive to keep), a playmaker in the centre and a winger with pace to replace BOS (Smyth is a decent sub). If Eze goes to City, that helps. |

"Rangers have still only scored more than two goals in a game once in 45 games this season - Stoke at home when the visitors played the second half with ten men – and once in 77 matches going all the way back to Cardiff at home in October 2022." F*ck me. |

I think if everyone pulled out but the top 32, there'd be such an outcry that the FA/Premier League would have to steer back. Come on, it would be hilarious if the cup only had five rounds and was basically the Zenith Data Systems Cup. |

Great to see the opprobrium to this and lower league clubs putting out statements criticising it. What they need to do now is organise, withdraw from the competition en masse and leave it to the big boys. [Post edited 19 Apr 8:57]

First FA Cup Final I remember watching was 1981. No replays, no Ricky Villa goal (I realise they don't have replays in the final now anyway). |

Must-win match against a team with nothing to play for, who have played a few days before. Simply no excuses. I'll go with far less optimism than I did for the Wednesday game but if we can't win this, we deserve to go down. |
