We, the current club, are missing the opportunity to host two of highest ranked teams in Rugby League playing at our stadium in front of a full house and the international media and reaffirming the towns long standing relationship with the Fijian community.
Clearly there are personalities involved so every effort should have been made to hammer out a deal between others from each side, calling on the council and RFL if necessary to help.
There might be plenty of Dale fans very happy with this outcome - but I am not one of them.
Again I am not finger pointing.
It would also be helpful to understand more about the safety certificate stuff. Clearly Dale are responsible for this. There are no restrictions for Dale games, there are restrictions for Hornets games but these can and have been changed between games. So is the certificate specific to individual games? Or is it Dale are responsible for stewarding and other safety aspects of games and so want to reduce the costs of fulfilling their obligations under the certificate for stewarding Hornets games expected to attract very low crowds?
Wouldn't that be specified in the lease? (rhetorical question of course) - it appears Hornets are not renting out spotland but are renting out a pitch, changing rooms and 920 seats in the main stand.
Finally there is an awful smell around the clause that allows Hornets to pull out of the lease at the end of the year - has that galvanised attitudes on both sides I wonder. On the face of it the memorobilia display stuff does seem to be a bit petty - but there may be more to that than meets the (or my) eye. | | | |

Without getting into the fine details of who did what and when, once the problem arose - and notwithstanding the stupidity of initiating legal action against Dale - i fully agree with you: further efforts should've been made by ALL parties concerned to get this game played at the COA
It would've been great for the town, for the Fijian community here, for Hornets AND for Dale if an agreed set of terms could've been hammered out. For all i know, our BoD might've tried to achieve this. I agree that having a legal action slapped in your face isn't conducive to such an agreement, but by making an effort i don't see why both sides couldn't have resolved this, and maybe gone on to a better relationship for the future
It's too late to salvage the international now, with Salford involved and probably already incurring planning costs, but shouldn't this act as a lesson to both sides to put their differences aside and try to come to some kind of amicable arrangement? Today's statement by our BoD sets out the terms that were agreed by both parties, and crucially, properly documented at the time. If Mazey has got the balls to put his recent outbursts to one side (tonight's twitter exchanges suggest he might be moving in that direction) the Dale should meet him halfway and have a relationship reset
What matters most is the sporting heritage of the town. We're proud of Dale, there's no reason we shouldn't be proud of Hornets too - and that's even if you don't like watching rugby. I don't like watching basketball but if we had a local team with a history and a future, i'd still be proud of it

I've just ventured onto the Hornets facebook page. I was amazed to see Mazey commenting in public all over the comments on the post about their board statement earlier in the week.
The statement LITERALLY says they will deal with it 'privately & professionally'.

Not all are totally blind, though... there was a group of blokes in a Rochdale pub last night vocally complaining about how the football club have 'shat on them' and 'don't want them there' but they were also very clear that Mazey and his approach is also doing them no favours. yes its Hornets clause and it gives Mazey the opportunity to leave town, all he ever wanted at Swinton, and all he wants here. They will be able to rent out non league and RU grounds out cheaper than the lease at Spotland while he tries to set up shop at the athletics track at Etihad.
He seems to have friends in many places in RL so wouldnt surprise me if his club survives the ‘cut’. | | | |
