They’re tweeting that their “matchday operations” are being restricted for the home game against Barrow on Sunday for reasons that they don’t want to divulge at the moment.
The bottom line is that the crowd capacity is limited to 920 and there will be no cash admissions on the day.
Wonder what that’s all about?

No blinkers here…..a very sad day when Mazey and his buddies bought the entire orgaization for a round of drinks. Like most of us, he doesnt change. Sadly the Co-op ownership that preceeded him did no due diligence. What you see is what they gotI expect the exit clause on the lease for Spotland will be activated at the end of the year and Hornets will be nomads next season playing here, there and everywhere while he tries again to move a team to Manchester.

No gloating please, it will be a sad day for the town, and Dale have been on the brink before…the name Tommy Cannon rings a bell and we were one shareholders’ vote from potential oblivion last year.

“ They will get relegated from the FL. I will party when they do”

Nah. I’ll reserve my right to gloat.

I should probably have said 'some' or 'lots of' Hornets fans are blinkered. There will be no gloating from me to the reasonable Hornets fans, especially who really do follow Dale too, but if and when it goes belly up there will be a fair few who will be reaping what they sow.

A well run, financially viable, genuinely professional community rugby club would be a massive loss for the town. Unfortunately that doesn't describe Hornets right now, and the relationship between us and them is probably as low as it ever has been.

I think Mazey is still reeling from not being chairman of Dale as part of Halsall's bid, and that dented his ego. He's hurting from that, I think he is probably annoyed that plans to move from Spotland were outed before he had chance to finish setting up the blame at our door, and his social media outbursts are really, really poor. If it goes the way I think it will at Hornets, the council reaction to being played for fools won't be good for him... it could damage SR Waite Electrical too if it plays badly in the press, and he could be in a world of hurt.

There are accusations of unprofessionalism, ill discipline and literal assault flying around Hornets social media tonight. The RFL have been tagged in related to a ball being deliberately booted at supporters and seeking an investigation. Where is man of the people Andy? Radio silent.

Thats the equivalent of folks gloating at our problems last year.

I am above that. Most of the folks posting bilge on the forum mon their side are johnny come lately pals of Mazey who have no history of supporting Hornets (just as the cowboys who tried to take us over and their pals had no history of supporting Dale)

Noel Cantwell had a better idea of where Rochdale is than those fools.

I agree. It cannot be stressed enough that Mazey & Co are NOT Rochdale Hornets. Neither, for that matter, were the blazer brigade before them

Hornets are the hundreds of players who've run themselves literally into the mud trying to eke a working class living whilst toiling in factories during the week. Hornets are the thousands of fans, including myself, who've watched and appreciated the blood and sweat expended on murky afternoons, just hoping to see something special

Hornets are those who brought Frank Myler to the Athletic Grounds, so those fans (including myself) finally saw the classiest passes you'll ever see in any sport, releasing wingers to run to the tryline with sublime vision and timing

This current lot who call themselves Hornets aren't hornets, they're dung beetles, and deserve to be crushed underfoot

But let's not tarnish the Hornets legacy, they're doing the job for us

Arf!

The BIG DOUG who said we wouldn’t have a team this season? I look forward to more of his insights as the season progresses. Those high jeans have definitely had some effect on his circulation and are affecting his brain.

Fair points but for years they’ve been blaming the football club for everything (Pre-Mazey too) and it’s tiresome.

Thankfully our board and chairman are more professional than Mazey and Co and don’t go all over social media pushing their agendas. He’s happy to sit back and let the Hornets lot believe all the rumours knowing that a lot of them are untrue. For one, I don’t believe the football club removed any memorabilia (personal view not fact) but he’s enjoying watching it get said so many times it turns into the truth.

If they’re too blind to see what he’s like then fook ‘em and let them continue blowing smoke up his arse (if they can find a time slot for when he’s not doing it himself).

Hard to disagree with this. There are some good Hornets fans who support both clubs and wish no ill on the football team, but unfortunately there are a number of Hornets fans who have always hated the football team.

Going back 20 year ago, I worked with a Hornets fan and he despised the football club. I was nothing but nice, would always ask how Hornets got on and feigned interest in them, but he would have a dig at every single opportunity. His partner was even worse, she caught sight of someone wearing a Dale shirt and scowled at him, mouthing obscenities under her breath!

There's also a bizarre arrogance that runs through many of them, and it's been like that for as long as I can remember. Like I say, some great people follow them but the mouthy, arrogant, louder supporters are the ones we all hear from!

There’s one oddball on Twitter who claims that Hornets getting promoted would “piss the football club off”. Strange stance to take - surely you’d be celebrating the achievement by your team rather than anything else but no, they only want to be promoted to (they think) rub our noses in it.

This is the mentality we’re dealing with.

It's exactly the issue I had 20 years ago and clearly, things haven't changed. The person I'm speaking about didn't like the fact that I wanted Hornets to do well...he wanted a rivalry where a rivalry didn't exist.

Memorable era that was. Athletic Grounds was a venue to fear by even the top sides. Who can ever forget that last minute drop goal by Bill Holliday from almost the half way line to knock giants Leeds out of the John Player Trophy.

Perhaps it was made even better as a tonic to what was happening at Spotland….it was 1973-4. I had season tickets for both.

Big crowds, outstanding players who were selected for internationals and GB tour. It continued even after Coach Myler was stolen by his home town Widnes and turned them into Giants. Kel Coslett came in From St Helens as player coach and continued the top class rugby.

Fantastic days at the Athletic Grounds. Alan Hodgkinson was selected for the GB tour, Henderson Gill went to Wigan and then on to International rugby almost immediately. I went to Craven Cottage to see Hornets beat Fulham who were packed with class players, captained by Reggie Bowden. Tremendous days. I watched both teams home and away from the 60's to the days that Hornets left their former home. Rochdale Hornets were a fantastic side under Myler and Coslett.

Once they arrived at Spotland it became a circus and it has got progressively worse since. Chucking money around like confetti when they sold up and barely any return for their outlay.

This isn't Rochdale Hornets anyway. They folded. Ceased to exist.

The current team using the name 'Hornets' is just an impostor. I have no affinity with them whatsoever. Something seems to be rotten at the core of the club.

And it appears from this thread there are a number of Dale fans who have always hated Hornets.

The recent shenanigans have just provided both sides’ hatemongers with another opportunity to express there dislike for each other.

Interesting that two of the longest threads on this site largely involve hatred of other clubs. And at a time when both Rochdale clubs were marking important centenaries in their own history.

I would dearly love to see both teams promoted in the next 12 months…..I have no expectation it will happen but it would make me a very happy old man.

Andy Mazey has dispensed with the services of coach Matt Calland who has left Hornets by “mutual consent”. The usual euphemism for sacked.

Erm, no, Big Doug, another company (Castleton Timber) have come along with a better deal. That's how sponsorship works.

I for one didn’t “hate” them until RochdaleGlory started giving it large on this thread. In fact, go back through very old posts from me and you’ll see I didn’t think they should be blamed for the condition of the pitch on one of the many occasions they were blamed.

I’m sure ‘cw25’ can back the following up with quotes…

“Have a wee look on the Rochdale AFC fan forum. Yes they have got one. Although it is more about Hornets and Bury. You get all the news from said 2. Some odd ones on there. Especially a Kel. This member is a fruitcake. Says to everyone that they are a kid, teenager. Basically someone else. Really made me laugh when it said, I will go to the Rugby, confront a person. But I might not because I am working. Like I say, Fruitcake !.”

No balls to say it on the Hornets forum so hides on the general egg chaser one instead. Right under his/her skin

I was over the moon when Hornets beat Toulouse in the play offs, and would go to a few games each season. But as you say, this weird man from Leigh has created nothing but hatred between the two clubs and unfortunately, dragged a lot of supporters with him.
