The bottom line is that the crowd capacity is limited to 920 and there will be no cash admissions on the day.

The very low level of season ticket sales at Rochdale Hornets has been known for some time - it first appeared on this thread in mid-January.
I’d presume it was one of the topics for discussion at the all parties meeting called by the Council disclosed by the club on Thursday because it’s one of the main parts of Hornets funding each season and underpins payment of their rent and stewarding costs.
What is undeniable is that we are living in the midst of a huge economic crisis for individuals and families. Rochdale as a town has examples of that everywhere you look much like other areas of the UK. If you can’t afford to eat or heat your home, then how on earth are you going to find the money for 90 minutes of football or 80 minutes of rugby league.
It looks like, in the main, Hornets have tried this season to be at home on weekends where football is away which might help.
Off the back of that, Rugby League offers minimal central funding at Hornets level and just 9 home league games mainly against backwater sides. Hornets average crowd last year was just over 500 and that was lifted by two games against Oldham and Swinton.
We know only too well the challenges on the football side of things. Football in the lower leagues is financially broken and the EFL are toothless against the FA and Premier League. Not one club in League 2 is making a profit right now and I can’t see how anyone in League 2 next year will make a profit either.
The current saving grace in our case we own outright and operate a key sporting asset in the town being the ground and because of prudence own that asset outright.
It is probably why the Council are finally taking an interest since by May 2023, the two main sporting clubs in Rochdale’s future might look radically different.
You only have to look at Doncaster to see the impact of a financially engaged and supportive council compared to goings on here. Doncaster even managed hosting a rugby league World Cup game.
It’s going to be a very hard season for Hornets this year financially make no mistake about it. |  |

Being a loyal supporter of BOTH clubs.....I hope that BOTH clubs can survive this difficult time. If clubs are trying to alternate home / away fixtures in order to protect the notiriously tempremental pitch then why not try to promote some kind of COA pass / joint season ticket. That way, the COA facility would be utilised every weekend. Supporters of BOTH clubs are struggling to afford the price of x1 season ticket ....never mind x2 (main stand Dale plus Hornets = circa £500) It might impact on the loyal Dale away support but surely Ifollow etc is doing that anyway? We desperately need for BOTH clubs to support each other as we all know that this is not a matter of the number of fans that Dale / Hornets might or might not have but instead a case of prolonging the survival of semi professional / professional sporti within the borough. Surely EVERY feasible suggestion needs to be explored....especially with the threat of Dale relegation being a distinct possibility with x16 to go!!?? | | | |

Unfortunately we have an apathetic Town when it comes to Sport, I think Dale have done well to keep their level of support, considering the results and quality of the team. If that team was in the late 70s the gates would have been below a thousand. As for Hornets I believe they need to move as soon as possible, low gates, little Rugby League funding, no bar income , no car park income and the football club even dictating kick off times, is not sustainable. Grant's and Council support could aide a move, then at least they could manage their own affairs and satisfy the many Dale supporters who never wanted them at Spotland in the first place. | | | |

I'm not sure that the joint season ticket has legs. These are separate entities with separate business models and no shared costs.
The football club have all the costs of running a stadium and the rugby league club have a tenancy agreement that permits a certain level of occupation.
The price points are interesting. If I take a 65+ ticket the costs in the main stand are:
Football - £260 for 23 games = £11.30 per game
RL - £150 for 9 games - £16.67 per game
It can't be right that RL is nearly 50% more expensive per game than football on a season ticket and at £17 on the day vs £19 for football it doesn't really promote getting a season ticket.
When you think that not everyone can get to every game, £150 for 8 or 7 games gets well above the on the day ticket price. The economics need looking at there.
