Montel Gibson
at 02:53 22 Jan 2022

Although this thread has changed from its original post, noted on Stourbridge FC website that Montel Gibson's registration along with another player had been terminated for refusing to play in a cup match and instead going for a trial at an unnamed club without permission.

Why is Carlisle not being video steamed in UK
at 15:10 23 Dec 2021

I thought that as it was not a Saturday 3.00 p.m. kick-off this game would be available to watch on I-Follow. Games at other clubs on Boxing Day appear to be. Is it because Carlisle don't provide the service. Does anyone have any ideas?

What is happening with I-Follow for this season
at 21:31 23 Jul 2021

Just to update everyone. I e-mailed the Chief Operating Officer at Dale and got a great reply in less than 24 hours. Much credit to him for his reply.

Saturday 3 p.m. kick-offs will once again fall under UEFA rules and will not be allowed to be televised or streamed. The exemption last season will not continue now fans are allowed back into the grounds

There has been a vote amongst league clubs as to what happens with scheduled evening and Bank Holiday kick-offs plus re-arranged night games. Dale voted to allow streaming of these matches, but the overall vote is not known yet.

The Saturday scenario is not great for me, but I can understand the principle. Hopefully there will be extensive highlights for Dale games to download from somewhere after the games.

What is happening with I-Follow for this season
at 22:05 21 Jul 2021

Due to illness and treatment meaning the COVID vaccinations don't work, I will need to isolate for at least the 21/22 season. Last season I was able to watch Dale on I-Follow every week due to spectators not being allowed to attend matches.

I am not sure what will happen this season. Will it revert back to only being accessible for people abroad, or maybe games where away fans are not allowed?

Despite the relaxations and potential return to full capacity, I suspect there maybe a few others who even if vaccinated may not feel entirely safe joining crowds, but who would like to continue watching I-Follow in the UK. I know I would be more than happy to buy a season ticket for I-follow home games so the club would not lose money in comparison with me attending matches. I would also like to subscribe for each away game, like last season if possible.

Does anyone know what the position is likely to be this season?

Hogan. And so it begins...
at 22:20 20 Nov 2013

To be fiar I think we got closer to market value (at the time) for Holt, Lambert, Murray. I am not sure many people thought they would go on to play Premiership/International or even top Championship Football at the time we sold them.

I always thought Buckley (200K to 240K) was under-priced at the time, as given his pace and age, it looked like he had potential to play much higher. The fact he moved for 1 million little over a year later supports this.

In the end I think we got an extra 100K for Holt (400K total), 200K Lambert (400K total) and 200K Buckley (400K total).

Having said that, many sides have sold players who were nowhere near as good for a lot more, but that is not to say they were worth it. Le-Fondre was a bit of a fire-sale, but in the end that worked out well as if we had not sold him, we would not have brought in O'Grady.

Starting Line-up Saturday
at 23:58 29 Jul 2013

In the main most people are picking
Lillis
Rafferty, Lancashire, O'Connell, Rose
Lund, Cavanagh
and then 4 out of 5 from
Vincenti, Done, Henderson, Donnelly, Hogan

Whichever one of the 5 misses out will be unlucky but will almost certainly come on as a substitute unless injury forces Hill's hand I think it might be Hogan as the least experienced as I suspect Hill will want to start with the defensive capabilities of Vincenti and will go with Donnelly up front to start.

Heny, Tutte, Bunney, Thomson, Eastham, will also be on the bench I think plus AN Other.

Whichever way you look at i, it is potentially a strong first 17 players.

Thomson signs
at 13:31 26 Jul 2013

Thomson has looked OK in pre-season and seems a good signing.

Just surprised we have gone for 2 first choice keepers. Given a limited budget, KH usually preferred 1 first choice keeper and a cheap back-up who would only stand in an emergency until a loan signing could be made, should anytihng happen to the 1st choice.

I suspect both Thomson and Lillis will want to be first choice so it will be interesting to see who does get the nod. Cannot see whoever is not playing really being happy with not being first choice, especially if it is Lillis.

I know Lillis had a few dodgy games and was at fault for a few goals last season but he also made brilliant saves and played consistently well once behind a settled pair of central defenders in Edwards and C-S. Until Thomson came on trial I thought our goalkeeping positions were covered with Lillis first choice and Cullis the coach/emergency stand-in.

Bobby Grant --------> Blackpool (farewell thread)
at 11:50 18 Jul 2013

I think Phillips is injured. Ince did turn down Cardiff supposedly to stay in the North West. I think Blackpool have taken up 1 year options on both players this season so both could be out of contract at the end of this coming season. Think Blackpool (if not Ince as Manager) would want to sell now before that happens, alhtough they only get 50% as Liverpool have a 50% sell on clause.

Blackpool have very few contracted players, Ince is waiting for a scouting system that Blackpool don't have to find him players rather than having his own contacts. Team of trialists lost 3-1 to Kendal. They can afford Grant from Rochdale and McKenzie from MK Dons but that appears to be their level in terms of wages at the moment.

Fixture highlights
at 12:00 19 Jun 2013

3 home fixtures on Tuesday and 1 away I think. Always get lower than average gates on Tuesdays

Big game of Portsmouth at home is also on a Tuesday. Probably 500 will come up instead of 3000 for a Saturday (assuming they are doing well). We always got Bradford at home on Tuesday's as well which cost us tens of thousands.

That fixture computer has it in for our revenue stream.

Who to replace Bobby Grant ??
at 21:34 17 Jun 2013

Done's best games have always come as an attacking midfielder running into space or taking people on centrally. Seemed very one dimensional as a winger.

Tutte can play out wide. He is forced to go forward rather than square and is effective. He can cross a ball and his acceleration over a few yards gets him past the full back. However as others have said he obviously does not like playing wide and nearly always drifts back to a central position removing any balance.

Knowing Hill any replacement will probably be unknown to the majority of us which is no bad thing. Hardly anyone had heard of Holt, Murray, O'Grady before they signed.

Bobby Grant hands in transfer request!
at 14:54 17 Jun 2013

Need to get a decent fee here. Given he was 1 booking away from another suspension for last 2 months of the season he had to curb his play slightly. Prior to that he was different class. without him Hill would have inherited a side in the bottom 2 or 3 not just below mid-table.

Hard but not impossible to replace. If he had left next Summer he could have gone for nothing so unless we were planning to extend his contract we have to sell now or January or take a loss. Impending court case will not help us but if a club is signing him on a 3 year contract it is probably not so important as for a 1 year contract.

Would doubt he has fallen out with Hill, or is just upset with club for getting rid of Coleman so I think his agent has probably had an offer from a L1 club. Despite his spell at Scunthorpe I think he can comfortably play at a higher level than L2.

Andrew Tutte signs new 2 year contract
at 15:56 4 Jun 2013

Definitely not expecting that. Thought he would look to move on. I thought we might have offered him a contract to get a fee not with the expectation that he would sign it. Interesting if Kennedy signs as there would be him, Tutte, the Aldershot lad, and Cavanagh all fighting for probably 2 positions assuming Hill sticks with his successful 4-4-2 (or 4-2-4) and does not go 4-3-3.

Phil Edwards Departs
at 15:53 4 Jun 2013

Played very well under Hill. However he was small for a central defender, which was his best position as he did not impress at full back or midfield. Whoever replaces him is probably going to add a bit of height to the defence which I suspect will be needed.

Michael Rose signs
at 15:54 15 May 2013

I would have said Rose's strengths are going forward. Not necessarily in terms of over-lapping but definitely uses the ball well and his crosses are good. Not sure he is the best when defending one against one and he is not the quickest but neither was Kennedy.

Mind you if he had everything he would not be signing for us at 28.

We can all agree though that he can shoot, take a free kick, and he improved as the season progressed.

Bury in deep dodo
at 17:24 10 Apr 2013

Cannot disagree. As you said earlier Bury have doen exactly what we did except manage to sell players. We all know what Dale's accounts would look like without the cash influx from player sales. They would be like Bury's.

Bury will also have to adjust to the 500K loss of revenue that comes with relegation. Our accounts for 2012-13 will not be out until next March/April but I suspect that a significant proportion of the profits from the last 2 seasons will be eaten up in this years loss (next year's accounts)

Rochdale POTY.
at 16:57 5 Apr 2013

Can surely only be Grant. OK he has missed matches through suspension and has lost his edge of late due I think to him trying to ensure he does not get a booking which brings suspension, but for the large part of the season it was his goals and general goal threat that was our only hope. Without him I think we would be looking at relegation already

Tutte has not had a bad season but not creative enough when playing centrally to get POTY I am one of his bigger critics as I think he could be a lot better than he is, but I would always prefer him to be in the side than not due to his mobility and has scored a few this season. Don't think Kennedy has done enough for POTY.

Not sure anyone else has shown enough quality or consistency this season. Donnelly and Edwards have done betterl under Hill. In Donnelly's case I think this is helped by him playing as the central striker. Has always looked better there than out wide as part of a 3 to me. Despite his lack of height Edwards is a central defender for me rather than a fullback. He should never play central midfield as was tried earlier in the season.

Keith Hill in talks over a 3 year contract
at 22:47 3 Apr 2013

I did not think Coleman complained about the League 1 budget, - just the budget in League 2 which he said was not much higher than he had had at Accrington.

Next accounts will be very grim. OK the number of loan signings will have dropped but we had to pay-off a large number of pre-Coleman signings last Summer, had no cup-runs, and have no-one likely to attract a decent fee. Without a cup run, losses will continue for a good while unless wages are more closely aligned to revenue which would probably see us relegated. Need the new manager (hopefully Hill) to sign some good young players in the Summer.

Hill's assessment of the 'team'
at 18:16 4 Mar 2013

Unfortunaetly major surgery will have to wait until the Summer. By that time we may not have a League team and could be planning for our first campaign in the Blue Square North. We are easily bad enough to go down based on the last 4 months (Bradford away, Cheltenham home excepted).

Agree about lack of character and paper ability not being reflected in performances.

Downside of filling a team full of loan and non-contract players is will they have the fighting spirit to keep us up. They will not have the full "taint" of relegation associated with them should we go down. To an extent the non-contract players are usually without a club for a reason and will need time to settle Jones and Rose look no better than what we already had. Henderson looked good in the first half but hardly saw anything of the ball in the second. Howarth has already lost his place. Even Thompson's biggest fans would admit that he is not a natural leader and is unlikely to turn a side round motivating others.

Forget next season until we are safe this season. Plymouth at home is looking a "massive" game.

Hillys worst game ever here?
at 00:00 27 Feb 2013

Think Tutte has too often flattered to deceivel in central midfield. Accelerates a bit but stops when reaches an oppostion and passes square too often. Has never put a killer ball to a forward in 2 years from central midfield to my knowledge. Not a bad player because he has a bit of pace, is mobile, and seldom hides, and this season has scored a few, but not a star player by any means.

When out on the wing, he has done well. One against one he can get to the by-line and put a decent cross over due to his acceleration over 2-5 yards Has created a couple of goals that way. That is his strength but he does not like to be wide judging from how often he drifts back to central midfield.
