Chico off as well ??? on 22:21 - Aug 5 by WarwickHunt

We wouldn't want things falling apart less than two weeks before the season starts now would we?

I would definitely agree that it's all a little close for comfort. As I said - I hope that this means that we have a replacement lined up - it would be a huge mistake to go into the season without 4 centre backs in my opinion (and I don't count any of the 21s in that). I think we need a new '1st choice' centre half if Chico goes - I think Bartley and Amat are fine back ups.

It's the norm to ship out starting XI players two weeks before the start of season. Nothing to do with cliques.

to be fair - it looks like much bigger clubs than us are doing the same thing (Man Utd).

Losing a few are they?

I was quite impressed with the signings we have made, Montero looks quality as does Gomis and we know what Siggy can do. But to be getting rid of a starting centre half when we are already looking short on numbers at the back seems crazy to me.

Amat is probably a better player than Chico but whether he is ready remains to be seen.

So the fact he wants to go to a joke league at the peak of his career counts for nothing then?

Any player under 32 even contemplating going out there is wrong for this football club

Agree with that. Bartley and Amat are back-ups, no more.

I was in favour of us signing a new first-choice CB regardless of Chico staying or going, but if he goes it needs to be a priority.

Enjoying the next level

Which ever way you slice it, many either dont want to play for monk or monk wants them out .

Others will take a sniff of the atmosphere and maybe decide now is a good time to move on , only the first 2 months will tell us if the right decisions have been made or not.

My only concern is that players only left when we screwed the other club for hard cash and even then we very often just told them to fook off.

I liked that about us, small club with a fook you attitude, i hope it doesn't change because i honestly think we harvested a reputation of being a hard club to extract a player from . seems to be quite easy at the moment and cheap as chips to sign our boys too.

They have considerably more strength in depth than us.

Van Gaal has just taken over, Monk took over in February and is on record as saying he wanted the transfer business done "before the World Cup started."

It's not exactly going to plan, is it?

well it seems so from the press reports yes. Looks like a clear out. There are a number of big clubs that aren't done - Liverpool - where is the replacement for Suarez (and surely Bony isn't it?) Don't believe that Spurs are done, nor Arsenal either - it always goes on later in the window than anyone would imagine.

I don't think getting rid of Chico is great particularly this close to the season, but can only hope we have better lined up. I do think, however, that Anat and Bartley are very talented young back ups.

At the end of the day we all seem to be worried and rightly so at the lack of incoming players to strengthen areas we know need strengthening before the Man Utd game.

Right Back, Defensive midfield and now centre back

Garry Monk said himself he was hoping that most of the new players would have been in place before the trip to the States.

Well that is well passed. I am not sure if we have had hitches along the way or something else has happened but it needs to be sorted soon before transfer deadline day desperation kicks in

Apart from replacing Chico IMO we've done all the absolutely essential business

£3.6m seems fair enough to me. at the end of the day, it's not a bad profit.

add a few million to that and they should be able to find a better replacement.

If we had added 4.4 million we could of had Caulker.

Villa have bid for Huw Jenkins, on BBC Wales now, they have recently lost their CE Paul Faulkner and Randy Lerner sees Huw as an ideal replacement.Look out for a bid in the region of £5M plus add on's,bit of a shock this who the hell will we get to replace him before the UTD game.

no, but as I've said before, every manager I can remember has said the same thing and it's always like this. It was a silly thing to say,

Obviously Man Utd have more strength in depth - I was pointing out that things happen (to me) surprisingly late in every window - it seems madness but it always happens.

I really believe we need another right back, defensive midfielder and forward (wide/centre forward) and that is without Chico - if he goes I think we also need a new Centre Half. I also personally think it's crazy it all happens this late, but it's not only us.

Isn't it the off field stuff that has put us off Caulker though rather than the playing bit?

After his first season, everyone was saying how much more of a better player he was than Caulker. Season later, Caulker captains a Cardiff side with the worst defensive record (I think) to a disaster campaign and goes for nearly three times more.

Wasn't to bothered about the Davies deal, but this is getting our pants pulled down.

I would be very surprised if we shelled out for another four players. Don't think we have the funds if I'm honest.

The way I see it is a centre halves need to be a decent pairing.

Maybe I have rose tinted specs but Caulker/Ash looked a very good unit.

Would of liked to have seen him back (not sure about his off field stuff, I know he likes the casino though)

You may be proved right there but the overall squad is weaker in my opinion

We are hoping Fabianski will be better than Vorm
We are hoping Taylor will be better than Davies
We are hoping Ki will improve and be better than JDG
No replacement for Britton if he gets injured or suffers lack of form
If Chico goes . . .. . . .

Saying that Glyfi is a good signing to replace Michu
and we hope Gomis will be able to do the business up front with Bony who we hope stays

I didn't anticipate our bench being full of Under 21 players like it seems at the moment

....a lot of hopes !!

So we need 4 players then if Chico goes, according to Monk.

"I would like to strengthen every position but obviously I am not going to do that and I have to prioritise," Monk said.

"It could be a number of positions – defensively, midfield and out wide as well. We will see. All you can do is see who is realistically available and then prioritise from there.

whatever happens we need 4 senior CB's going into the season.

Just call me JFK

The more players we ship out at reduced prices the more money we will need to spend to bring in better replacements

I hope Monk has told Huw this or do you think Huw tells Monk otherwise ?

Mmmmmmmm!

Happy with Leon. Would like someone else and will be surprised if we don't get them but doubt it would have been top of the list.

Happy with Rangel. Would like done support for him that isn't Tiendalli but tbf to Tiendalli he's done ok as and when he's been needed. Again, not the biggest of priorities at the start of the summer.

Obviously I have no idea of what funds we have or haven't got, my personal opinion is that there's not much in the kitty. I think we are pretty much at our peak when it comes to wages, not sure the club can afford to keep shelling out big money.

Getting gems for one or two mill isn't easy.
