That is great news
As for any damage to his brain - children are amazingly resilient and other areas can sometimes compensate - so it is hard to tell with these things and can also improve slowly over time with lots of stimulation. There is also lots of help out there and lots of us who would do whatever we can to help raise funds for any special treatment that may be needed.
