Well I haven't slagged Slade off but you can't deny some of the football we produced last season was boring, our home crowds showed that. Best I saw us play last season was Forest away, now if we start off with performances similar to that I think a lot of people might change their minds. |

As Sweyn has said fans are fickle, ours being one of the best. Ok this once i'll go back in time, 71 in fact, we had 22500 for Carlisle for a league game then pulled in 47500 four days later for Real Madrid. I know we had won 4-0 against Carlisle with Warboys scoring all of them but he didn't play four days later and 25000 came out of thin air and disappeared just as quick next home game.  .

The size of the catchment area/city these days means absolutely naff all. We've attracted a sizeable fanbase in the U.S and Korea just by being the plucky underdogs in a top league and signing a Korean superstar.

We had a sizeable support in Japan when we had Inamoto on loan, all buggered off when he left - culture being supporting players more than teams.
Catchment area is important in terms of bums on seats; obv Sky money lessens that importance, certainly to you guys. It was more important in terms of youth development when the protective rules were in place, Prem greed has seen an end to that. | |

Granted some of our idiots wouldn't even be happy if Guardiola took over, but given he constraints and the state of the squad when Slade took over then by any measurement he's done a good job. From 17th to mid table whilst having to trim the squad and wage bill, without spending the money previous managers have had with only the Jan transfer window which traditionally isn't the main source of transfers
Of course some of the football hasn't been great but results have certainly improved to the degree we'd not be far off the playoffs next season if the results were repeated.
Instead we get cretins continually slating Slade, that players won't want to play under him yadda yadda yadda..whining it's the worst we've ever been - a clear indication they only started supporting us around the cup final period.
Both of us have an "advantage" of decent catchment areas without major competition - ie the crowded scene in London. That in itself means nothing or Plymouth would be regular CL winners. There's no real reason why we can't, long term, both be competitive in the Prem. We just need to get our s*** together which may take some time. |
