The Jeremy Corbyn Thread part three on 13:58 - Dec 1 by Nookiejack | From an emotional point of view Dignity would be plowing billions of £s into Libya for its reconstruction - given it is now a failed state. We haven't got that sum of money available though have we - given size of Govt deficit - UK is currently running. A few £100k burnt on each bomb used in Syria - is not going to increase the size of UK Govt deficit by much is it? But at least Cameron has set £1bn aside for the rebuilding of Syria. Probably will take a lot more than a £1bn though. From a logical point of view UK Bombing does not carry huge significance. What would carry huge significance is: 1. Saudi Arabia bombing ISIS 2. Saudi Arabia stopping the funding of ISIS 3. Turkey not buying oil from ISIS 4. Turkey not bombing the Kurds ....but Saudis seem to be from the same Wahabbi death cult as ISIS and its inspiration - o they are not going to do 1 and 2. Turkey will not allow formation of an independent Kurdistan state so will not undertake 3 and 4. The UK bombing of ISIS in Syrian with its 8 planes is a total irrelevance. |
On the four points you list I agree. I'm sure there are department heads from various governments sat around a table somewhere discussing a resolution for all that you've raised. On Britain's involvement I strongly disagree. If there is specific intelligence as to the whereabouts of the "British" (sic) jihadis, and there's good reason to suppose there is, then the RAF have a specific mission to accomplish. A squadron of eight warplanes is entirely sufficient to that end.

That's the thing taking out a few British Jihaids is irrelevant. Has the killings of Jihadi John and the Jihadi from Cardiff made any difference? The greatest threat to the UK is probably home grown radicalised ones that are not even in Syria and have never travelled there. How many airstrike have already taken place in Syria - ISIS appears to be still going strong? How are 8 planes going to make a material difference? Ground troops are the only way of taking the land - but can you then hold it. First of all who are going to be the ground troops? Some people say it has to come from Arab countries? Yet which ones? Saudi Arabia is Sunni (so not going to go down well with Assad and the Shia Alawites, Russia and Iran) and Saudis are also currently fighting a war against the Shias in Yemen? How about Iran but it is Shia so not going to go down well in Sunni heartlands where Sunnis are currently based? Jordan and other Gulf states are probably far too weak. If Arab states unlikely to do it - who is going to provide the ground troops? It only appears that Assad's army - supported by Russia have the strength to do it - but Cameron and the US want to take him out. Secondly once we have taken the land - do we then build military camps again like in Iraq and Afghanistan - that will be focal points for attack from insurgents (remnants of ISIS)? The local populations are not going to support us there - as they are Sunni muslims and concerned about Shia atrocities led by Iran. Saudi Arabia also likely to support insurgents if from same Wahabbi sect. Maybe somebody has to eventually come up with a political solution - including Sunnis/Shias/Kurds/Palestinians/Other minorities like Druze and Yazidis? UK bombing using its 8 planes is irrelevant.
