A group of us at Cwmbwrla School (which Mel and John also attended) met him when he was starting out playing for the Swans. He was eleven years older than me, so must have been in his late teens. I remember him as being friendly and readily chatting to a bunch of excitable kids. Didn't he live in nearby Fern Street? |  |

Mel was big in stature and in personality, Mel Nurse was a great friend to him and I am sure that he is feeling the loss of a lifelong friend.
The last time I saw him fit and well was in 2011 when he and Mel Nurse attended Our 50th wedding anniversary.
I'll miss him snagging a free fag or a whiskey, and his endless football stories.
