Well I am after that. Hate to scapegoat a player, but I’ve made more effort on the toilet than he did in that entire match.

Pathetic and powderpuff

I felt the need to resurrect my own thread on here where I previously totally coated Madsen off as I need to eat about a crate load of humble pie now.

What a turnaround this guy has had.

Silk and steel, blood and thunder.

When he stuck one on Dykes tonight as well… I roared out of my seat in F Block

Nico, take a f***king bow you curly haired Danish dynamo!

You definitely are Madsen!

Him or Burrell for player of the season so far

Very brave and honest of you, Jevlar.

I am always very reluctant to write a player off so long as they are wearing the hoops. Even if they are cr*p, they're our cr*p and you've always got to look at who else we have got to play in that position.

But I can't pretend I always believed in him, I had reached the point where I just didn't think he would cut it, and it's a delight to be wrong.

PS It's also a position and role that we've lacked in for donkey's years.

PPS when we first signed Madsen, the curly hair had me thinking of John Gregory. Starting to feel like that's not far off.

Thanks, Cider appreciate that.

I think if you can post that sort of comment you need to try and own it, especially when (as this season has shown so far) you end up getting it incredibly wrong.

He’s currently one of the first names on the sheet. The last turnaround of this level was probably Furlong.

Long may I continue to be very wrong!

Madsen's still not the complete number midfielder as he doesn't score enough goals but he keeps things ticking over and now relishes the physical battle when last season he hid from it. Without doubt the most improved player of 2025 and fast becoming one of the first names on the team sheet.

He was never hiding. He was watching and learning.

He's playing in a different position now, as the manager has admitted. He plays a number 6 instead of an 8. As an 8 you need to get up and down the pitch a lot, Madsen cannot do that. As a 6, he hangs back and only ventures forward on some breakaways or when we have full possession.

As a 6 he is great and in the mold of Wilkins, passing it around with short simple 5-10 yeards passes that split the oppo. He also is able to hold onto the ball when you give it to him, which is rare in the Champ.

What this does mean though is that Varane weho is also a 6, has to run around a lot more and so do our forwards. As we have no real 8. Also, there is the question of if we did have an 8, would Madsen be exposed as really he needs the backup of someone like Varane?

This means we have fewer possession than other teams. but these other teams have not exposed this (although Brum did try tonight), so, therefore, so far we have gotten away with it.

zzzzzzzzzz

He looked seriously narked when Dembélé took the free kick off him on the edge of Brum's box.... as well he might as the latter blasted it five yards over the bar.

Said the same thing on the match Fred.

Dembele had no place taking that free kick given the wall size discrepancy (all the taller guys the left) and the right footed angle. It was like the penalty issue - Madsen should have taken that too.

Just push the little guy away and take control, Ragnar. You are two foot taller and two stone bigger than Dembele….

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Glad you are not our set piece maestro then, Dorse..

Madsen should be the main man, when it comes to taking corners and free kicks. Chair takes nearly all corners when he is on the pitch and he really shouldn't. Madsen is that man.

But, what a change. Top man Nico !!

Perhaps also having players up top to feed, as opposed to Zan the Man, helps too. Brave to do the interview at the start of the season, saying how down, he was last season, but has shown sometimes with some players, and deployed slightly differently, confidence breeds confidence..

A more laid back man manager in Stephan, as opposed to the more demanding type in Cifuentes, I believe has helped too.

Well done sir.

He was fantastic last night and has been much, much better this season.
Getting stuck in to tackle he was previously bottling, has a range of passes, the best set piece taker in the team too.
Controlled the midfield last night, getting better every game.

Not the warmest praise, but could catch on.

The block tackle he put in on one of the Brum players wouldn’t have happened last season.
He’s improved in every aspect of his game.

This thread aged well. Glad I didn't join in.

Another brilliant display last night. And alongside "BUZZ" has been the player of the season imo.

Keep it up Nico!

I'm guessing... hoping... that Julien had a strong word with Dembélé post-match.

It's kinda interesting. He's in a similar position to Madsen when he arrived. Both were clearly talented but neither adjusted comfortably to the team, or the level we play. Madsen spent a lot of game time watching and analysing — to the frustration of many fans. Dembélé, OTOH, doesn't appear to think at all... once again to the frustration of us fans! He tries the same moves over and over, mostly without success. Eventually I hope he'll learn to take a beat, and a leaf out of Madsen's book. Pause a second, actually look at what he's up against and consider his options. He frequently has more decision time than he realises.

I also think that Madsen spent a lot of time on the bench last winter and must have taken a long hard look at what he wasn't doing during games and learnt from it.

Now, playing in a deeper role he is performing very well.

I think Dembelé might be in the position that we've seen Chair in a few times - so desperate to make things happen that he runs into trouble over and over.

Chair came through these times, Dembelé will too. He has the quality, just needs some confidence and a bit of coaching.

Didn’t somebody come up with a song for him to the Madness song?

‘Madsen, Madsen, they call him Madsen’?

I thought that was a pretty good idea.

With the freekick, Madsen made it clear that he wanted to take it and was obviously the better choice but Dumbele decided he wanted it and ended up looking a bit of a d1ck. Madsen was clearly hacked off about it for quite a while afterwards. I thought it was a very QPR moment to have two players fighting over a freekick that neither were very likely to score though.

I get Watford away was a very low bar for Nicolas, but it seems the lower you set the bar for yourself the greater the improvement,

A bit like Sergei Bubka and Duplantis have done in the Pole Vault, if you set the bar artificially low, the crowd are off their seats as you increase your performance level by 1cm every few months,

Madsen is no longer hiding for 90 minutes and is now putting his foot and his head in but still seems to struggle to keep up with the intensity & fitness required to play 90 minutes of Championship football and disappears for key periods in games, typically after 60 minutes, which is where Morgan can be best deployed, not as a Right Back against Demari Gray when we're trying to defend a 1-0 nil lead (still a lucky Manager is better than a good Manager as the saying goes)

Jimmy Dunne has 2 Goals + 2 Assists, whereas Madsen has 1 Goal & 2 Assists in 20 odd games (although I'd still give Conor Coady the Kone Assist) so I'm not yet seeing what others are,

For me Madsen has still a long way to justify the money we paid, but if he can turn his good short spells in games into full games, he's moving in the right direction (Btw I was a relatively late convert to Chris Willock, so hope I'm wrong again.)
