Late goals and wild celebrations at Loftus Road...... 09:36 - Dec 11 with 1342 viewsthehat

Tuesday night’s late drama got me thinking, it’s been over 50 years since my Dad took me to Loftus Road for the very first time. There have been some very special late goals that are forever etched into my brain and will remain there until I move upstairs to join my Dad at that “great gig in the sky”. I can’t remember what I did yesterday but if I close my eyes I am taken back in time within our little blue oasis to some very special moments and celebrations and these are them:

Dave Webb v Stoke City - One of my first memories and the goal that got me hooked.

Clive Allen v Crystal Palace - Police horses on the pitch and carnage outside so exciting for a 14 year old boy.

Gary Micklewhite v Newcastle United - In the Loft with my mates.

Kenny Sansom v Arsenal - Not as late as the others but it certainly brought the house down.

Les Ferdinand v Blackburn - Don’t know why but this late goal has always stayed with me.

Jamie Cureton v Port Vale - Bit like Tuesday they scored in injury time and we then went straight down the other end and Jamie scored for his hat trick in front of The Loft.

Paul Furlong v Leicester - I think we came back from two nil down.

Paul Furlong v Luton - An important late goal to keep us up and send our MIG friends down.

Paul Furlong v Oldham - Forever etched in time. I swear West London moved a few degrees on the geographical map.

Charlie Austin v Doncaster Rovers - New Years Day and it got rid of my monstrous hangover.

Charlie Austin v Wigan - We’re going to Wembley.

Jamie Mackie v Liverpool - 2 nil down after 74 minutes No problem.

Dijibril Cisse v Stoke City - So important in staying up.

Jimmy Dunne v Birmingham City - So important in staying up and getting Jimmy closer to Alan McDonald legend status.

And now welcome Kieran Morgan to that special elite club. I’m sure there are others not mentioned but these are the ones that have stayed with me and as John Lennon once wrote in his famous Beatles song “In my life I’ve loved you all”

I've been going to QPR since 92/93 and therefore should've seen almost all these goals, but I've managed to miss so many

Jamie Cureton v Port Vale - Was a school night and think I missed their equalizer and our winner as we left on 90 mins

Paul Furlong v Leicester - Was living in Israel for the year

Paul Furlong v Luton - Had gone on holiday and missed the game

Jamie Mackie v Liverpool - Was living in NY

Dijibril Cisse v Stoke City - Still living in NY

Jimmy Dunne v Birmingham City - My sons first game and he couldn't make it to the end

Keiran Morgan - Wife had her Xmas party so I was babysitting

You sit through all the shit and miss the great moments FFS

For the 3-2 win v Port Vale, Cureton only got 2 (both ably assisted by Rowlands). The other was scored by Birch.

Cureton's hat-trick was the 4-1 v Coventry.

None the less, I remember that Cureton winner just after Vale's equaliser...

My word, I was stood right behind the goal and Incredibly Kasey Keller got his fingertips to It.
When It went In, well mentalness behind the goal.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Brilliant, I was saying the other night that goal and the feeling I had pre it was exactly like a game from years ago, I remember the Rowland assist but couldn't remember who it was against - and there it is, Port Vale.

The way we reacted the other night was almost a carbon copy, straight on the attack, and I just had a feeling, like then, it was going to happen.

Wild celebrations in the garden of the Crown and Sceptre, that's for sure. Social distancing out the window, Clive climbing on my back spraying his Peroni everywhere. Landlady was not best impressed at all, give us a right ticking off.

Wasn't that ground empty for that one?

Then again, I seem to recall Nick London going berserk when it went in though!

Yes I think you're right. Maybe it was just me that went berserk?

What a great idea for a thread, the hat!

One of my favourite ever cup games at HQ.

Simon Barker's equaliser in the 6th Round in 1990 was special, but just looked it up and it was 83 minutes, so while it qualifies under 'wild celebrations' maybe it doesn't under 'late goals'.

But still...I'm asking for inclusion...1-0 up thanks to Razor, only for 'Bahnes' (as Motty always called him) to exploit Seaman's free-kick Achilles heel and then Rush putting them ahead with only ten to go ("and that's it" - declared Motty).

But that was not it.
Was it, Motty?
Was it, Simon?

We. Went. Utterlyandcompletelyberserk.

Barker at the peak of his game during his time here. On the verge of making his full England debut and then a few weeks later he breaks his collarbone at home to Man City which ends his season. Could have been an outsider for the World Cup squad. He never got that close again.
