Please can anyone confirm this back home, it has sprung from the Hoops Downunder on Facebook,
I hope there's no truth in it, would be bloody mad getting rid of a player of his calibre.
I tried to cut and paste all the comments and even tried a screen shot but no good I'm afraid. just hope its bollocks

Jonathan Hughes Given they appear to be about to sell Luke Freeman for 3M let's hope it's not true. Two of their better players leaving shortly before the transfer window closes wouldn't be too flash unless they have some good quality new blokes lined up.

Not heard this one yet, but did read earlier that West Brom have put a £15 million price tag on Matt Phillips. What did we get for him?

Poll: Shamima Beghum

It’s to be expected - he did, after all, “tear up the World Cup”

Sooner he went for £5M+ than Freeman

Fantastic player on his day but too often he has periods of invisibility and never plays after an international break so you lose him for about 8 games a year anyway

Besides - we don’t need to sell anyone TONY FACT

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

If there was hierarchy on football transfers I imagine we'd be described as 'Barnsleyesque'

If the club can get 5 Mill minimum, I wouldn't be that disappointed.

I would regard this story as being as likely as the Freeman one.

Perhaps a clue is in the line that we are about to sell freeman for £3 million!

Hayes, obviously West Brom want to retain Phillips if they are putting that value on him. Especially as he has joined the ranks of serial Premier relegation players!

Is that the same Matt Phillips who used to get dogs abuse and called a useless cnt by a lot of our fans?

And every bit deserved. He can cross a ball very well, that's it. Big ungainly lump most of the time. One of those guys who needs to spend less time down the gym not more.

Terrible attitude too.

Didn't he have the most assists in Europe one season for us and then did the same for West Brom?

We could do with a few more shithouses like that with terrible attitude.

15m? Surely not? 5 times better than Smithies who was basically perfect in every way?

Yet another post based on a rumour/made up story and people get all hot under the collar.

Hi Bazz

We've got Freeman and he's twice the player and an assist machine.

If you give Phillips all the corners and let him stand on the by-line he will assist but for the other 89 minutes he'll cost you.

I'd like to point out that both QPR and WBA were relegated with him in the team.

Do you have a stat league for 'fail to track back, stand around, give the ball away' too?

Worth considering that Mass will miss almost all of January and perhaps some of the Christmas schedule to prepare for and play in the Asia Cup...

Who said anything about Freeman?

You'd turn your nose up at at 15 assists a season because you don't like his tracking back?

Clint Hill has relegated three teams. Is he pony too?

Only if played at left back... I feel Hill for all his endeavor, was out of his depth in the Premier League.

I did find Phillips frustrating because he showed flashes of quality with QPR but had many bum performances mixed in and was also injured a hell of a lot and overall, never found an acceptable level of consistency for the money being paid.

Actually with the emergence of Eze now taking the position Freeman is best in (and with Chair not far behind), I would say that Freeman is the most expendable out of him, Luongo and Scowen. I would like to keep both, obviously, but with Manning & Cousins behind Luongo it wouldn't be outrageous to cash in - should the offer be good enough.

All conjecture at this point, but if we're talking about players that have genuine value and have possible in-house replacements already available, Luongo is up there. I wouldn't be averse to us selling Luongo and replacing him with someone cheaper from the lower leagues, like Jon Nolan, but understimate what Mass does for us at your peril - we're a much better team with him in it.

I don't think Freeman's set pieces are expendable or easily replaced, nor his midfield nibbling.

Luongo on 12:30 - Aug 2 with 5202 viewsBazzaInTheLoft

Yeah he was well frustrating!

Purple patches followed by cabbage patches.

Can’t argue with 17 assists (or whatever it is) though. Sometimes you can’t just fit a player in either the dog shit or not catagories.

Luongo on 12:33 - Aug 2 with 5190 viewssimmo

Who said they would be? I just think his best position is 10 and he's probably not going to play there this season. His set pieces are fantastic but there's less effective replacements in the squad for Luongo and Scowen as there is for Freeman, IMO.

Phillips was decent when he first arrived but was phoning it in for at least a year before he went, clearly not interested and just looking to avoid injury. Totally unprofessional.

Couldn't agree more, if I'd pulled out as often as he did none of my kids would have ever been born.

Luongo on 21:08 - Aug 2 with 4692 viewsBazzaInTheLoft

I think if he was a player that had 17 assists, tracked back all the time, and never bottled a challenge, then he'd be no where near us in the first place. It's the faults that made him available to us.

For some fans players are defined by what they can't do rather than what they can.
Makes watching football a rather negative and frustrating experience.

Also, Philips scored what could be one of the best goals ever scored in a Rangers shirt, but it gets forgotten as it was in a dismal defeat in another London derby in that run of games when we were clearly going to get relegated.

What a f--king goal. If this had been a winner in a cup game or something I reckon we'd remember him a bit differently

Luongo on 23:57 - Aug 2 with 4428 viewsCliveWilsonSaid

In terms of sheer raw ability and potential I'd have him in top 5 players we've had over the last 15 years or so. Only player clearly ahead of him is Taarabt before he literally "phoned it in". Perhaps Assou Ekotto, which may surprise a few. All frustrating players with problems but serious talent too.

Thought provoking and interesting assessment.

That said however, for me it’s a simple equation: what did they actually do? You could add, with what they had I suppose. Now doubt AT’s wonder season was a case of everything and the lot. After that, nada. Phillips for me massively under-delivered and so, debating what he has or could have done are irrelevant when compared to what he actually did - which alas, was not consistently deliver with the abundance of ability he has.

Now you could argue, both AT and MP played at a time of immense shittyness both on and off the pitch at QPR, and I’d even countenance some speculation about what they might have achieved in more healthy times. However, during the same period, look what a Clint Hill, Ale Faurlin and The Chief delivered with less ability but more character and professionalism during the same shittyness.

Messrs Ronaldo, Zidane, Pele, Messi etc, got to the mountain top because notwithstanding their God given abilities, they worked their socks off all the time. Not things the ATs and MPs can be accused of.
