Retro sweets. 10:54 - Jul 29 with 5516 viewsSnipper

A girl at work yesterday had some hubba bubba bubblegum. I said I hadn’t heard of it in years. It started a reminisce about old bubblegums and sweets in general. I was on about the Bubblicious advert and jingle. What was the bubble/chewing gum that had the liquid in the middle when you first chewed it? None of us could remember.

I’d love to try the old crisps and sweets from back in the day again.
Crisps: Bones, Fangs, Rancheros, Outer Spacers.
Sweets/chocolate: Texan, Banjo, Bar Six, Treats.

Any others?

I saved up the wrappers and got a Bazooka Joe watch. My first proper watch. I think I was more pleased with that than the Tissot or Tag Heuer I have now.

I am still Steve but no longer in Dagenham.

No sign of Pacers - Opal Fruit's b*stard brother, which looked more like a bar of soap. I do remember Spangles quite well - the font on the packet was the same as The Goodies logo (I think).

Slightly off topic, my favourite breakfast cereal as a freckly youth was Golden Nuggets - as mined by Klondike Pete.

"Thank you for supporting Queens Park Rangers Steep Staircase"... and I thought I'd signed up for a rollercoaster.

Rancheros are still available, at least they are in Ireland. They taste like muck, though. not what I remembered at all.

Fruit Salads were amazing.

And Wham Bars.

Was it Bubble King, the chewing gum with the liquid in the middle? Bloody horrible it was.

EDIT: Just remembered, it was called Freshen Up. Grim stuff

When I was about 13 there was a banana and soft toffee center lolly, I can't find a reference to it anywhere so may have been short-lived I always got one after swimming at Lime Grove

The closest to it is a Walls chocolate with a soft toffee center

Think that was short-lived too.

Edit
just found out that was the one and it was banana

Wham bars were ruined when they took all the e-numbers out.

Remember how the crunchy bits made your eyes water and the bar took your fillings out?

I had one recently it was nothing like as good, soft, no flavour, no crunchy sour goodness. It's like they made them kiddie friendly

The bloke who invented this should have had a knighthood....

An ice lolly with a chocolate bar in the middle!

I think I kept Lyons Maid in business through most of the seventies devouring these.

American hard gums, pear drops and a quarter pound of pineapple chunks in a bag in your school blazer, the odd thing I remember most was that after a couple of weeks of being in the bag in your school blazer the last few pineapple chunks always seemed to be sharing the bag with largish lumps of fluff.
No idea where the fluff came from.
