You might be right I'm afraid. The little I've seen of Dykes for Scotland suggest he's the type of striker who likes the ball in front of him. I'm not claiming he's Jamie Vardy but he's got decent speed and is very good at holding on to the ball when it's on the ground. Pumping high balls into the box might not be his thing. Started off well. 15-20 mins they hardly touched the ball. Then a fortunate bounce between Barbet who is stretching to cut the pass out then comes off Dickie into Woodrow's path.
Something they didn't deserve. Its a pen and red though. Not attempt to play the ball.
Then second is just not following a runner across the area.

He looked tired just before the break.
I said at the time of the sending off that Bonne should have been taken off, I see now that that would have been wrong. I don't think that Dykes has 90 in him so maybe Bonne had to stay on the pitch for that reason.

If you keep giving the opposition a free shot from 12 yards when you dont need to make a challenge you will lose games.
Against teams like this we would be better keeping 11 on the pitch and conceding, especially with an hour left to play .

To be fair, we should have scored after 20 seconds! Chair shot from 5 yards out and it was a goal bound block. And if either of our forwards anticipated some great crosses they’d have had sitters.
Their forwards have had far less service but look much much livelier in terms of anticipation.

Yes, to clarify, I should have said with good spirit.
There's a lot of well paced breaking moves not coming off in the final third for a few reasons. It's better than I saw against Birmingham but the big difference is a brain storm from Dickie.
I don't think we're actually playing badly even though we've been weak a couple of times and paid heavily for it.
If we're going to improve then they have to work on the concentration of the defence, all penalties have been the result of weak defending which were recoverable but they were then followed up by terrible decisions by Wallace twice and now Dickie. That is coachable, drill the defence constantly on recovering the 2nd ball without fouling, its badly needed.

Yeah, it was stupid from Dykes. But the real issue is whether the coaching staff have raised this with him already. If so, he needs a serious dressing down and to make an apology to his teammates. It was always going to be a tough season after selling Eze and the Bright situation won’t help.
But I still think it’s too early to judge the likes of Bonne, Dykes, Dickie etc. Quite a few of this first team making the step up for the first time (Kakay, Nico etc) and they’ll need time to adapt.
