The Central League 05:53 - Aug 6 with 4717 viewsspell_chekker

We're supposed to be entering a reserve team this year.

I can't find a fixtue list but PNE (the current champions) have published theirs.

We're playing them away on Tuesday 27th September at 2p.m. and at home on Tuesday 24th January at 1p.m.

It looks like the season is starting on 23rd August.

Holmes and Lubala On Target In Dev Squad Victory

Brad Holmes and Beryly Lubala both scored twice as the Development Squad recorded a 4-1 victory away to Bolton Wanderers.

The Seasiders raced into a three-goal lead inside the first-half at the Eddie Davies Academy, with Holmes notching either side of a Lubala penalty.

Lubala, back from a loan spell with Colchester United, extended Blackpool's advantage after the interval, prior to the hosts pulling one back late on.

Brad Holmes' afternoon was thwarted when he was forced off early in the second-half due to injury and replaced by Zak Emmerson, however.

The result sees Stephen Dobbie's side move three points clear at the top of the Central League table with a game in hand.

Team: Cunningham, J Moore, Squires, Lankshear, Hughes, Nyame (Byron), Mariette, Trusty, Lubala, Lescott (Francis), Holmes (Emmerson)

Not Used: Spinelli, Donkor

Bolton Wanderers B 1-4 Blackpool Reserves - match report

Wanderers’ B Team kicked off 2023 with a 4-1 defeat against leaders Blackpool in the Central League at Lostock.

Brad Holmes and Berry Lubala both scored twice as the Seasiders moved three points clear of the Whites.

Conor Carty pulled one back for Matt Craddock’s side, having returned from a loan spell at National League club Gateshead.

The first chance fell to Carty, who was denied by a smart stop from Archie Cunningham after getting in behind the Blackpool backline.

The visitors then went ahead when Holmes drilled home after getting on the end of a clever cut-back from the right wing.

Luke Hutchinson made a fine stop to deny Luke Mariette from close range as Blackpool continued to look lively in the final third.

The Seasiders were awarded a penalty moments later after Hutchinson was judged to have tripped Lubala after Adam Senior had initially made a good block. The forward made no mistake from the penalty spot.

The Bolton goalkeeper made another impressive stop 10 minutes before the break to keep out Holmes’ flick.

Senior missed a big chance to get his side back in the game on the stroke of half time, heading wide from Connor Stanley’s free kick.

And Wanderers were made to pay at the other end when Holmes slotted home from a tight angle. Hutchinson thought he had managed to keep it out but the linesman judged that the ball had crossed the line.

After the break, Donovan Lescott was denied by the crossbar after showing good feet to avoid Andrew Tutte’s sliding tackle.

Carty then came inches away from getting on the end of substitute Matty Grivosti’s inviting ball across the face of goal.

Lamine Toure also sent a header wide after meeting Sam Inwood’s in-swinging corner, before Senior sent an effort over the bar from distance.

Blackpool added a fourth when Lubala gave Hutchinson no chance with a ruthless strike after Wanderers had failed to clear their lines.

But the Whites provided an immediate response, with Carty pouncing on a defensive mix-up and slotting home.

Gerald Sithole was forced off with an injury during the final stages, with Danny Jones coming off the bench.

Hutchinson, Tutte (Grivosti), Toure, Senior, Sackey, Khumbeni, Pettifer (Tweedley), Inwood, Stanley, Sithole (Jones), Carty

Rotherham are currently the only other team to qualify for the semis although Wigan are looking like a good bet to win group 3 and I wouldn't be surprised to see Rochdale, from group 1, qualify as best runner up.

Match Report: PNE Reserves 2 Blackpool 2

A late stunner from Kian Best earned Preston North End reserves a point against Blackpool in the Central League.

PNE went ahead 12 minutes in through Finlay Cross-Adair before Tayt Trusty equalised for the visitors with virtually the last kick of the first half.

Blackpool then thought they’d done enough to earn victory when Ewan Bange scored in the 87th minute, but Best — fresh from his late winner in the FA Youth Cup against Gillingham last week — popped up with another fantastic strike to draw level.

The visitors enjoyed the first chances of the game, firstly through Luke Mariette, who curled a left-footed effort over from 25 yards, before Josh Nyame then had a powerful strike of his own saved.

Mariette also dragged an effort wide of goal on 12 minutes and, within seconds, North End went down the other end to take the lead. Nelson did well to slot the ball through for Cross-Adair and the striker made no mistake by slotting it under the ‘keeper.

Jacob Slater came close to a second on the half-hour mark as he saw an effort from a tight angle strike the woodwork, while Cross-Adair and Nelson almost combined again minutes later but a defender came to the rescue.

The latter also had a big penalty shout on 37 minutes, as he looked to be hacked down after a clever touch and turn inside the area, but the appeals were waved away.

After Donovan Lescott had sent an effort wide from a promising position, Blackpool got themselves an equaliser in the second minute of stoppage-time through Trusty, who pounced after Pradic had parried an effort out.

Shortly into the second half, Mariette had a big chance to give his side the lead, but he couldn’t find the target as the ball fell his way just a few yards out.

At the other end, North End came close themselves on 66 minutes through half-time substitute Ellis Horan, who saw his goalbound effort take a nick off a defender and spin inches wide.

It looked as though Blackpool had done enough to earn the points with just three minutes left on the clock as Bange took the ball in well with his back to goal, before turning and finding the back of the net.

Best had other ideas, though, as he scored his second goal in as many games, picking the ball up 25 yards out and drilling it low into the bottom corner to earn a point for his side.

PNE line-up: Pradic; Wallbank, Taylor, Best; Seary, Kamara (Coulton, 67), Mawene, Bennett (Horan, 45), Seary (Eccleston, 88); Cross-Adair, Nelson. Subs not used: Davis, Pemberton.

Blackpool line-up: S Moore; J Moore, Squires, Lankshear, Hughes; Trusty, Nyame (Francis, 63), Mariette; Lescott (Byron, 88), Strawb, Emmerson (Bange, 60). Subs not used: Donkor, Bardsley.

Attendance: 147
