Current govt policy is completely ruinous. If the additional loss of life wasn't bad enough, they are also tearing society apart at the seams. Highly, highly unethical.

Many points raised but I don't think Sweden or Japan (amongst many) are countries that haven't fared badly through not locking down. Belgium (rarely mentioned) have managed appallingly however.
