A good solid Championship defender.
My only concern would be his lack of pace. An attribute I think we currently need in central defence.

with a lack of pace at the back a real danger we are going to have to defend a lot deeper this season and leave Smith isolated up front

I wonder what input BFG2 has had in the decision to investigate BFG3?

Also, echoing Dave's point, we've had this problem in the past and it did not fair well for us as the team suffered having to defend deeper and losing all connection with the forward(s). Are we creating some sort of stop gap in the hope that Hall will return to play?

Lack of pace is a concern and we will miss Ned for this, but if we cover the centre backs with Scowen, Hall or whoever and we push the full backs up, allowing the wide midfield players to push up we may get away with it most of the time. Kakay/Furlong are, I think quick enough to play this way but at left back I'm not so sure Bidwell is.

Just how slow is he or is he just average pace ? John Terry wasn't gifted with pace yet shifted Rio who had decent pace , seems he had enough pace for the championship and that's where we will be for at least three more years , or am I clutching at straws

I believe he is pretty solid but not the quickest. But with 2 Germans at the back we could be efficiently slow. Or vorsprung lack-of technik.
