Is it beyond the whit of QPR, to remove the Ellerslie roof and…… 13:10 - Feb 9 with 3541 viewsRangersDave3

Replace the roof with clear thick plastic that will allow all that beautiful UV to hit the pitch rather than the roof as it stands.

I’m not into physics etc, but Shirley, light getting onto the pitch is an important thing?
As it stands, excuse the pun, it’s casting a large shadow that is troublesome!

I think over the years so much has been done to each stand that every time something is done (new signs, electrics etc) it's compromising the structure so they now have to be careful what they do.

Anyways, most clubs have those grass UV light thingy's now.

Lucky you if you've actually seen the sun in the last three weeks!

Noticed on the ITV highlights this weekend there a lot of pitches getting muddy and cut up now, it’s not just ours

I don’t see why football has to played on perfect pitches anyway, it was always part of the game. Means you have to adapt your style

The Baseball Ground is the one people remember but the John Robertson tributes showed the City Ground at its peak - a giant cow-pat with that deceptive thin crust. Forest did OK on it.

A number of clubs have LED UV light racks that live across their pitches when they are not in use. Birmingham has such a system to maintain the health of the pitch. A cheaper option than the roof but yeah, we need to do something to get enough light to that side of the pitch.

Never knowingly right.

Clear thick plastic roof...

You'll swelter when it's hot and given the amount of pollution etc. in the air, it won't stay clear for long!

Maybe some sort of roof retraction system, allowing both light and increasing airflow.

Pretty sure QPR have this and use them regularly

Can't the stadium be made detachable and big drones be used to keep it floating in the air during the week (or perhaps moored at Wormwood Scrubs)?

That actually makes so much sense, and sounds more doable than digging down

Yes, Preston's looked in a similar state to ours. Also noticed that a few clubs seem to have the same floodlighting issue we had a few years ago where the whole pitch isn't illuminated properly and it looks like some of the lights aren't working. Not sure if that's a cost cutting measure, but probably.

they do usually on the road behind the loft issue with them is keeping them maintained and also using he right type of uv buld at diff times during the year .
i believe the ones we use are lets say areancient and we also dont enough to cover the pitch esp at this time of year . hat ever is going on with the pitch isnt due to lack of sunlight thats for sure esp as when it first was noticable we had had the midlest november and december for years ,

Might be cheaper to put reflective mirrors on top of the South Africa Road stand.

I’ve noticed quite a few surfaces are suffering from this incessant rain .
Even Arsenals pristine surface is looking
A bit shabby of late.

My sons youth game got called off yesterday. Third one now meaning what with Christmas, they've played 2 games in 2 months.

Reason for the postponements is they want to protect the pitches. Oh plurleeez, kids love this schit......

It would cost a fortune to replace the existing roof with something like clear polycarbonate Sheeting, a financial false economy.

I hear what you are saying Tactical but with all due respects thats a stupid idea... BUT how about raising the stadium up to permanently be on stilts?... this solution also creates a load of parking spaces underneath the pitch.

I think too much is made of the state of the pitch.
We should see it as being an advantage, and use it as such.

I found a blue-and-white-hooped duvet cover/pillow case set in a charity shop in Penge for a very reasonable £6 the other day.

Must admit, it’s got the bounce of our artificial pitch and the bobble of a 1970’s pitch.

Should use familiarity to our advantage.
