League shake up 16:48 - May 6 with 853 viewsLeadbelly

I confess that I have always sided with the clubs in the club v country dispute so my natural reaction is to be against these proposals. Plus I fear change. What do others think?

Fa and PL don't seem to consder that football exists beyond the top half dozen clubs in the championship. Looks like a pretty bl00dy stupid idea to me and of considerable detriment to the conference as well as those lower league sides taking young PL loanees - this season we wouldn't have had Garbutt or Wynter.

Terrible idea. I've no idea why they think it would be a good idea to combine the conference and L2 in order to bump up where these teams would play.

We've been a club that has benefited from loan players in the past, as has any other lower league team. We would kiss goodbye to finding any loan talent if this comes into force.

Premier league clubs already have their own academy level so cannot see the advantage. The reason the likes of other European countries have B sides is that they do not have 92 league clubs to filter/ loan players down too. Smaller clubs will lose their identity . Who will be watching these games ?

One source on the Beeb suggested that a B side would help Prem clubs keep a closer eye on their prospects because on loan it wasn't as easy to chart their progress.

The comparison to US college football in relation to the NFL is patently ridiculous. A few years ago when I lived continually in Iowa for about 5 years, there is no 'pro team' of any kind in the state. U of Iowa gets about 68,000 to a game and the Iowa State Cyclones will have 45-50,000 on an autumn Saturday. American college football is tied to regional loyalties to college teams who have better support than the pro outfits .. I mean, Ohio State will always have literally 100,000 at the horseshoe in Columbus, versus whatever the Cleveland Browns or Bengals pull on a Sunday.

College football was king before the NFL was created. The BPL wants to create a lower tier and developmental league in relation to the BPL? College footy is not a lower league although it is the step before the NFL. So the proposal and the Prem admins who feel they have this sussed, there is no comparison to US college football.

How about we have a governing body that unifies the BPL/the FA/ and the FL.. a long shot, but we seem at at an impasse. that's why I feel English football is in trouble. The big Prem clubs have no reason to advance the playing careers of English players.

Appalling idea, effectively relegating every team en masse from the Conference down, and meaning any club wanting to try and get past the Premier League B division into the football league proper would for all intents and purposes have to have better resources, facilities etc. than Premier League clubs do (or get very lucky).

What on earth is wrong with young Premier League talent just going out on loan for match practice?

That was akin to my point above, Wessex. Some in the Prem feel they have less oversight over their potential starlets as loanees (Beeb and Daily Mail stories, most recently) .. So 'they' want this bizarre scheme where, as bwildered writes above, Stoke City reserves on a Tuesday night, so where does that leave the Football League?

The Prem and their ideals have become a monopoly. I believe it's time for the FL to show some spine. The U's will still at minimum get 3-4000 even if no longer part of the upper tie money suckers.

What is the point of the Premier U21 League but to bring on England scarletts , who if they showed any potential would have already been loaned out to a League club or fast tracked into the first team .
Strange that clubs like the U's have been thwarted in attempts to improve their Academy status at present, for potential Stoke City reserves V Woking ( no disrespect ) which obviously will make a difference in the national team making it to World Cup Semis.

Got a better idea Mr Dyke, one deducted per game in any Premier League match when less than 75% of players playing for the club in the complete game do not qualify for any of the Home Countries, surely this would encourage to develop home grown talent .

“By bringing the story of the Christmas Truce to life for a new generation, we can also remind how football can be a positive force in bringing people together - even at the worst of times.
Alternatively Mr Dyke, your are trying to bomb the ethos of freedom of football . So take a hike .
