22 clearances

Watching him pre seaaon, i thought his career was on the wane.

A few brilliant challenges and interceptions. His reading of a game is second to none.

Our first name in at centre half. Almost worth considering a years extension on his contract...

Closest to scoring (apart from Kolli) as well - just his kind of game, sit back and deal with incoming rather than being pulled out of position.

He has been really good lately and despite Edwards arrivals has been undroppabale alongside Jimmy. Great pro and fantastic attitude.

Comfortably the MoTM for us. Dunne was a little wobbly. Cook was a rock.

And that covering tackle when Dykes was through! He didn’t just make up ground on Lyndon, he made up yards on Ronnie, then executed the perfect sliding tackle in the box…AND got up and gave Dykes a proper word, “you felt that, lad?!”

Also, on the ball he’s passing it crisper than anyone.

I know he’s old, but he’s currently our best centre half.

That was a concern…..

If Dykes is out pacing Ronnie then his handbrake must be on!!!

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

At the game there were a few stunned silences during that chase... and I felt the same.... he was easily outstripped by ..... Dykes, that was concerning

But Cook was again superb last night...

Cold sweat moment that one, thought I’d put my remote on slow mo.

We need that coach back who used to make our lot do sprints and stamina runs around the West London stadium in the 1970’s, well, Stan accepted. Too much time on the spin bikes, methinks.

It was actually quite funny to watch the three of them. Cook got there by sheer willpower, but was beaten himself by two sloths, the ghost of Michi Frey and a snail.

I don't remember Edwards being that devoid of pace from last season? Let's hope it's just a lack of match sharpness and fitness or something, else we have a more cultured Rob Dickie on our hands, although there isn't anything wrong with that.

I did say we would be better buying lower down for cheaper. But he has to be given time always a risk investing such large sums in players

Agree he's back to fitness and form. and he should stay where he is until that changes.

Problem is JS needs to think about what he's doing with Edwards now he's here. Jimmy can do a solid job in that RB role too, and he doesn't bring the ball forward through the middle like Edwards does, so we're losing that bit of creativity that the 4.5m was supposed to get us by leaving Edwards at right back.

The Dunne-Cook partnership has been solid of late but I still think he needs to switch it.

Marshalled the defence along with Dunne superbly, both now on same wavelength tightened up really well at the back, especially away from home.

I was hoping he would bring on Mbengue for Edwards for the last twenty minutes to give us more pace going forward.

However, I would leave things as they are for now. If it ain't broke don't fix it!
Hayden playing well now too, so midfield possibilities now limited as well.

Keep Edwards at RB, give Mbengue some minutes too. If Hayden tires push Edwards into midfield and bring on Amadou.

He has been great for us since day one. Well worth another year if we can agree reduced wages.

Total pro apart from one thing.
Every single game, without fail, he tried to score a ridiculous goal. Overhead kicks, long shots, volleys. None of those have ever gone in. Steve, please pass. Just get your goals from headers and penalty box scrambles.

Didn’t he score an overhead kick once? I’m sure he did.

'Just his kind of game'. That's the problem. If we want this team to play a more possession based game with a higher line and more pressing, then Cook won't play.

It's no coincidence that the less ambitious we are and less possession we have, the better Cook plays. It suits his style, but the team is a hard watch.

I'd slot Edwards in next to Dunne next game as he can step up and break the press.

Interesting - on first viewing I thought he was being outpaced but when I watched it again he was keeping up with Dykes and I think would have been in a position to complete a tackle.
However, Cook was nearer to the goal than both but wider - came across and was in a better position to win the ball.
Doesn’t make Edwards Lynford Christie but left me less worried.
Edwards isn’t a right back and eventually will replace Cook with Mbengue filling the right back slot.

I have to hold my hand up and say I thought he was all washed-up at end of last season and I was pee'd off when I discovered there was something in his contract that allowed him to stay another year and milk the club of another £million+ in wages.

However, I got it massively wrong - he's been consistently immense for several games, is keeping fit and is standing up to the brutal EFL schedule better than many of our younger players. Long may it continue too.

I think one of our biggest fumbles was losing out to Forest signing him in January 2022 with us being 4th and them being 9th. Massive turning point for both clubs I think. Wish we had him for longer, wish he was younger. Top pro and at this point I hope we can extend for a year in the summer, even if he's not playing as much as right now it must be great to have him around with our young CB group (Edwards, Smith, Akindileni)

It's hard not to love Cook's defensive ability when we play deep and he gets to head and tackle. He's incredibly good at it. 18 clearances in one half! That's Richard Dunne v Derby.

And I don't think that our ultra-defensive style away from home is solely down to Cook: we have, for instance, often played with four centre-backs and two holding midfielders. That's not a team held back by any one player.

But, tactically, I think you are right. With Cook in the team, it is harder to play our game model of a high line, pressing and possession-based game, particularly away from home.

And that's not a knock on him.

There's no way we were matching Forest for wages back then, I would guess.

Yeh they absolutely blew us out of the water. Silly money. Shame because he might have been the difference - we only needed to reverse the home losses to Peterborough and Cardiff.

Second time they’d done it as well. Hefele was literally on the motorway to come and sign here from Huddersfield, Forest chucked a wedge of cash at him and then never played him.

Cardiff also did this to us with Kieffer Moore from Wigan, we had the piece written for that one. Would have been an incredible signing for us.

Yep you would be right, if I'm remembering events correctly we were first in and set to sign but Forest came in last moment with big bucks I'm sure
