Spencer on trial at Oldham Tuesday, 14th Jul 2009 20:36 Former Dale keeper James Spencer has joined Oldham Athletic on trial with a view to winning a permanent deal with our League One neighbours. The Latics are taking a look at Spencer with a view to bringing him on a permanent basis as back up / competition for keeper Dean Brill. Spencer was given a run out in their 2-0 victory over Hyde United in a pre-season friendly on Monday evening. Spencer did little to impress Oldham boss Dave Penney, though that was through no fault of his own. The former Darlo Manager Dave Penney said: "James has a lot of experience with Stockport and Rochdale and looked like being a top keeper at one stage, but he has lost his way. "It was probably a bit unfair last night as James didn’t have a save to make. He probably wanted shots flying , but I wasn’t really able to judge him." If Spencer does join the Latics, he won't be the first of the released players to get themselves new clubs for the 2009-10 season. Mark Jones has joined Wrexham, Lee Thorpe has joined Darlington, whilst Scott Wiseman has rejoined us.
