"If Billy scores...We're in the sea!"

Paynter on verge of shock Blackpool switch.

No puns about donkeys on Blackpool beach, Billy Paynter has emerged as a shock target for Blackpool!

The low-scoring Leeds forward, surplus to Neil Warnock's requirements, is apparently wanted by Ian Holloway according to Sky Sports, he may be spun a Championship lifeline yet!

Holloway's apparent late move comes as it seemed certain Billy was on his way to League One with Notts County and Doncaster fighting for his signature.

If Blackpool have entered the race, then surely Billy is bound for Bloomfield Road and with Ian Holloway's reputation of transforming also-rans into reasonable players, Billy may rediscover the scoring touch that made him a formidable striker at Swindon?

However Neil Warnock confirmed that Paynter will only leave Leeds if the deal suits us, suggesting we are holding out for a transfer fee. For what little he has done at Leeds, the temptation surely would have been to let him go for free?
