Low Crowd Expected For Relegation Battle

Home > Story Index >Desperate Times

Carlisle United arrive at the Vetch on Saturday for a crucial game in both team's season in what looks like being a farewell to Swansea from Matthew Bound, set for a £70,000 move to Oxford United.
These are not happy times at the Vetch Field. Disgruntled fans are calling for boycotts of the game and I would not be surprised to see tomorrow's crowd dip below the 2,000 mark - all the fault of Tony Petty and his cronies.
We are not a bad footballing side but we have been ripped apart by people who do not care about the football club, just their own personal gain. The feelings of the supporters have been vented and activities behind the scenes are affecting the players, no-one can argue with that.
Statistics show that we have not won a game with Petty watching so we can be thankful for the small mercy that the bloke is as far away as possible for tomorrow's game as Colin Addison prepares to make changes to his squad.
Jason Smith will not play again this year and John Williams is also likely to miss out on the starting line-up with Steve Brodie looking favourite to partner Mamady Sidibe up front in a re-shuffled attach.
Bound looks set to play his farewell in a three man defence with Neil Sharp and Michael Howard. Nick Cusack is another injury doubt and Andy Mumford is ready to step into his shoes in midfield with Gareth Phillips also set to start.
Ryan Casey may well be used as a wing back which, to be perfectly honest, frightens me as I do not think he is up to the grade in midfield let alone a specialist position.
It is yet another game that the Swans simply have to win with Carlisle one off the bottom, a position that they have become accustomed to in recent years. The atmosphere at the Vetch will be very subdued tomorrow and with Christmas just around the corner, we can only hope that it is not the last Christmas as far as Swansea are concerned.
Heart says a Swansea win, head says draw at best.
