Britton: We Have Set The Benchmark

Leon Britton says that the Swans have set their benchmark with the performance against Nottingham Forest at the weekend

Britton put on a man of the match display of his own in the 3-1 victory as he - along with midfield partners Darren Pratley and Ferrie Bodde - pretty much run the midfield for the ninety minutes.

And it was a rare shot on goal from the midfielder that played the biggest part in opening the scoring after just six minutes.  Latching onto a Jason Scotland pass he found himself in a position to shoot, bent the ball around the beaten Paul Smith only to see it come back off the post.   But in coming back, the angle was such that it rebounded off the back of Smith and into the empty net to give the Swans the lead.

And whilst ultimately the goal will not go down to the name of Britton, he is happy enough with the result and the performance to such an extent that he told the Western Mail: "We wanted that high tempo and we set out for it from the start

"And you just tell yourself if you feel tired, imagine what the other side are feeling. It was a good performance from start to finish with a bit more cutting edge than last week and we’ve got up and running.

“But we’ve set ourselves a benchmark now, we have to perform like this every week and, if we do, who knows what can happen?

“All we know now is that we’ve set the standards we want to carry on through the season. We’ve come into the division a bit unknown, but the last two performances have shown we can do well here. We don’t have any fear of what’s in front of us.”
