Wass Up To Replace Clyne Thursday, 30th Apr 2015 10:30 danish International Daniel Wass is up in the running to replace Nathaniel Clyne in the summer if the current Saints right back should leave St Mary's. There is a new name in the frame to replace Nathaniel Clyne and for once it is not a Dutch player but one from Denmark, 25 year old Daniel Wass is currently at Evian in France and if this rumour holds water then he could be being lined up as Clyne's successor. Wass is entering the final year of his contract in the summer and its believed he would cost Saints around £1.5 million if they were to buy him, as with most of the players Saints sign he can also play elsewhere on the park and can operate not only at right back but as a winger and it could be that Saints are looking at him not perhaps as a direct replacement for Clyne, but as more of a squad player to add options should we qualify for Europe. Wass started his career in his native Denmark before joining Benfica, but found himself loaned to Evian almost straight away, he was then sold on a permanent basis in 2012. He has played at all levels for Denmark and since making his full debut in 2011 has won 13 caps for his country. His career is steady if unspectacular, but Saints will have done their homework on him and it seems that although they may go for a more high profile replacement should Clyne leave, Wass could offer a good deal as a versatile squad player.
