After 14 months out of the game the rumour mill is suggesting that Ex Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is ready to return to football management and he could be facing his old club this season

Talksport's chief football reporter Alex Crook has tweeted or is that X'ed that ex Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is ready to return to work and that Birmingham City who today sacked Wayne Rooney after only 15 games is a potential destination.

How much substance this rumour has is anyone's guess, if he is appointed then Hasenhuttl would be due a reunion with his former club in the first week of March when Saints travel to St Andrews.

However he could have a reunion with his former assistant at St Mary's Danny Rohl on February 10th when Birmingham travel to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday.

Southampton supporters will speculate on just what Ralph could have achieved at the club had Rohl not left St Mary's for Bayern Munich, Ralph soldiered on without Rohl for several years but never quite found an assistant as good as Rohl with whom he had previously worked with at RB Leipzig.

When we were great we played with a real defined style and topped the league briefly but when we lost, we lost by record amounts. Birmingham could be in for a wild ride. Wish him the best of luck

Saidou added 22:55 - Jan 2 I like him a lot. I miss him. Those special wins against Arsenal, and Chelsea at Stamford bridge. Setting traps all over the pitch and feeling so confident even without the ball. And how we sometimes preferred to chase the ball in the opponent’s half so we can counter and score within 10secs of winning it back. Very direct. And thrilling. I think he lost his way when he started focusing more on possession football. We just weren’t built for that. I will welcome him back anytime alongside Danny Rohl.

He got very close to getting where we wanted to be but he was let down by certain people , Iv allways thought If he did get big success with us he would’ve stayed unlike the Koeman when the big clubs come calling , it was a huge mistake getting rid of Ralph at that certain time

The joint biggest away defeat in English top flight football ever. The longest run of consecutive defeats in the Club’s history. Playing an F A Cup Semi Final and us not having one shot or header on the opposition’s goal. Losing to Newcastle when they were reduced to eight outfield players. If he had been sacked when he should have been I’m of the opinion that we would still be a Premiership club.
