Leeds look to life after Firpo

According to reports, Leeds are eying up a replacement for soon to be out-of-contract Junior Firpo.

Firpo is being linked with a return to Spain with former club Real Betis said to be favourites to land his signature, Leeds do not seem to be in a rush to offer the 28 year old Dominican Republic International a new deal despite a stellar season with three goals and nine assists so far.

Firpo has become something of a cult hero amongst the Leeds fan base, who'd be sad to see him go. According to reports Newcastle's seemingly unflavoured left back Matt Targett would be an option to replace Firpo.

Targett, 29 an ex Aston Villa and Southampton player has played just once in the EPL this season and apparently could leave St James Park in the summer. Leeds amongst others are reportedly an option.

Personally if we do go up I think we'd need an upgrade on Firpo. As good as he's been these past two seasons in the Championship, I just don't think he's good enough for the Premier League. I'm still haunted by him casually jogging back from an advanced position as our opponents attacked during that relegation season.

So promotion secured its going to be an area we need to look at. Our only other options are Issac Schmidt, who is still untried and unknown and Sam Byram who is also out of contract but apparently keen to stay
