| Carlisle v Woking 09:41 - Dec 10 with 3541 views | dingdangblue | Unfortunate fixture for us tonight in that we will most probably lose our top spot without being able to do anything about it until we play Altrincham on 19th December. We will have 3 games in hand over Carlisle after tonight so its still very much in our own hands - it is nice to see us top of the league though! | |

| Carlisle v Woking on 18:09 - Dec 10 with 2271 views | D_Alien | Saturday v Leamington is such a waste of a fixture. We really should be taking on a NL opponent in our continued effort to build our points total Couldn't care less if we beat Leamington, it's meaningless in the scheme of things. People point to "income" from progressing, but placed against the context of pitch replacement it's peanuts The competition at the top of the NL is fierce. It's all that matters. I wish the lads well on Saturday, but mainly to come through unscathed | |

| Carlisle v Woking on 18:34 - Dec 10 with 2202 views | 442Dale | All National League clubs are playing in the Trophy on Saturday, so it’s not as though we could have used the date for anything else. If we do go out though, we could possibly move a game to 10th Jan which is free for the 4th round. Unfortunately Accrington’s ground isn’t available that day. Whilst we’d all take promotion over a Trophy win, the chance to win a national competition at Wembley is something most Dale fans would see as a highlight of their time supporting the club. That’s why last season was so disappointing. Do I think the Trophy could cause issues? Yes. Did it last season? No, it actually helped until the disappointment of the semi final. If we can play some squad players and get through, all well and good. It’s also worth remembering that as fans, nobody (on here at least) expected us to win the league when the season began. The goalposts have moved slightly after the best start in the club’s history, but other teams are keeping pace too. We may end up in the playoffs even if we go out on Saturday. Either way, we should just go out to win every game and see where it takes us. [Post edited 10 Dec 18:40]

I take your point about all NL clubs having to play in this competition. Last year's winners, Aldershot (an easy victory over the team that outlasted us at the COA) will no doubt still be basking in the glory as they languish in the relegation zone It's meaningless

Not sure Dale fans thought that when that last minute header dropped in to take the game to penalties back in April. Accept that there will be individual fans who may believe that, each to their own. Don’t know what Aldershot fans think now, but it was certainly a huge moment in their history when they reached Wembley last season. Maybe a cup run could kickstart their league form this time around. Who knows. [Post edited 10 Dec 19:21]

What Dale fans predominantly thought as that last minute header dropped in is well-documented, on this forum It could be summarised as follows: "We have a manager who, whilst doing reasonably well given the cards he was dealt, can't handle the real crunch games" Nothing has changed since then, since we've only had one "winner takes all" fixture, against York, at home, in the cup Maybe Aldershot fans would swap that "huge" moment in their history to be at the top end of the table. Who knows? It's ALL that matters [Post edited 10 Dec 19:33]

Some fans weren’t bothered if we went out of the cup before we played York too. As I said, each to their own. The comparison about last season’s Trophy defeat with participating in the Trophy this season was to try and establish if the Trophy itself is “meaningless” or whether it’s dependent on any particular moment in time. Many Dale fabd may be travelling down on Saturday hoping we take our first steps on the way to winning a trophy With Aldershot, that particular moment in their history was huge as the reaction illustrated at the time. Unfortunately football doesn’t do trade offs, but yeah some fans across the game may take that offer up..

I wish those Daleys making the journey to Leamington on Saturday well. Hopefully a good day out with the right result (no-one looks to welcome a defeat) That changes nothing. As i said earlier, coming through the fixture unscathed, in terms of further injuries, is the biggest priority so that our squad isn't further hampered in the main business of not just this season, but all seasons - progression up the pyramid, after the awful descent though the EFL trapdoor FA Trophy? Bleuuuurrrrrrrghhh..... [Post edited 10 Dec 19:43]

The good news now is we are the next team out of the contenders to play on Friday 19th Dec so we can hopefully get our points on the board and they are all playing catch up on the Saturday.

I listened to the last 15 mins on Radio Cumbria. They subbed off Conn-Clarke near the end when they were looking for an equaliser. The natives were certainly restless - the boo's were very audible after every misplaced pass.

I think the problems with the FA Trophy schedule is later in the competition. 3 rounds on National League fixture dates. 31st Jan we play Southend a, 28th Feb we play Aldershot a and 28th March we play Sutton a. Thats 3 long away trips rescheduled for Tuesday/Wednesday nights and potentially 3 tough FA Trophy fixtures (depending on the draw).

| Carlisle v Woking on 10:31 - Dec 11 with 788 views | Daley_Lama | Such is the pace at the top of this division, that any slip up is seen as world shattering as in this fixture. Top 5 still average more than 2 points per game and Borehamwood in 5th would be top in all other divisions, with only Coventry being favoured with games in hand. Carlisle’s defence and manager getting it after this game, little credit to Woking out there despite a beautiful equaliser which you can only praise the opposition for. | |

It was similar last season, but with slightly less travelling, as our Trophy run coincided with trips to Woking, Sutton and Solihull Moors.
